System won’t launch

Hello there, I was using my system this evening, when I connected another HDMI to my main screen (from a second PC, I do this for work). From this moment, my principal PC wouldn’t have 2 screen at the same time.

Setup is a desktop, connected to a principal 27" screen in DP, and a secondary 23" in HDMI. And only one screen would be active at a time, the HDMI. If I unpluged it, the DP screen will be active, then, as soon as I connect the HDMI back, the DP turn off and the HDMI become the main. The DP screen is still visible in display, but even if I make him active, nothing change.
Then, I tried to reboot, with only one screen pluged, and the session won’t load anymore. After the UEFI screen, I have a black screen with the following:
/dev/sda3: recovering journal
/dev/sda3: clean, 316886/9601024 files, 5381290/30400000 blocks.

I get that this is a pretty standard message and no the problem, it’s just to situate where the boot process ends.
And then the system froze. Seems to be a graphical card issue? I did update a lot of package via Pamac today.

I just booted with the live CD, both screens works fine, but I can’t go to my system to troubleshoot the screen stuff or get info of the system… I can get info from the LiveCD, if that could help? Could this be a nVidia driver issue?

If I manjaro-chroot -a to get the system info, I can show you this:
12CPU quad core Intel Core i7-4770 (-MT MCP-) 12speed/min/max 3304/800/3900 MHz
12Kernel 5.15.60-1-MANJARO x86_64 12Up 41m 12Mem 2502.6/15874.8 MiB (15.8%) 12Storage 3.42 TiB (2.3% used)
12Procs 254 12Client Unknown Client: systemd 12inxi 3.3.23

Thanks you for reading this, hope you have some insights on this.

If you have access to TTY, you can try logging in and look for errors.

A common case is a partially updated system…

sudo pacman-mirrors -f5 && sudo pacman -Syyu

… or an unsupported kernel.

Good day to you and thank for the reply. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to access TTY. I did reinstall my /, and I boot again, but still with only one screen…

And Kernel:
Currently running: 6.1.0-1-MANJARO (linux61)
The following kernels are installed in your system:

  • linux515
  • linux61
  • linux60-rt

I did a sudo pacman-mirrors -f5 && sudo pacman -Syyu, the system says there is nothing new and nothing to update.

Here is a screenshot of the configuration and main screen I had. If I press apply, both screens turn black and after a few seconds, it revert to only the HDMI one.

Do you also have the issue when booting with the 5.15 kernel?

Please provide your system information, formatted, as detailed in the guides linked above.

Yes, I had the same problem with the kernel 5.15 (it was from the live image).

Hello,

The issue sounds a lot like this one

And i would probably go the same route as i mentioned there.

Wow, as soon as I renamed the file, and plugged the second screen, the system worked again correctly!
It didn’t saved the widget of the screen, but that no big deal. Should I keep that kscreen_BCK from now on along the newly created kscreen?

You can delete the _BCK one, but i wonder, does all still works with the new folder/files created after a reboot and disconnect/reconnect of the second Monitor?

Yes, I tried a few reboots, the system works fine now, with “both” kscreen folder.
I will mark this as solved.

Thank you both for your time and answers!
