[Stable Update] 2025-08-30 - Kernels, ROCm, Firefox, Steam, PHP

I was a confused by the version number until I remembered I was using libreoffice-still and not libreoffice-fresh.

In case folks want another option, I tested changing writer from libreoffice-still to use “tabbed”, saved a file as .docx, closed writer, and clicking the file to open writer didn’t crash the app.

So if there is no major feature difference you’d miss, switching to “still” will get “tabbed” working again for you.

Some Thunderbird updates hit stable today (Sept 20), and it reminded me that I often get errors from one (always the same one) of the three Canadian mirrors mirror.xenyth.net

I think I’m just going to remove it from my /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist file as I find it unreliable, but thought I’d report the issue so the mirror can be looked at.

My thunderbird segfaults now?
Only on my laptop though.
Works fine on my desktop.
Reverting is not a (good) option, because I would need to recreate my profile.

You should be able to run a downgraded Thunderbird using:

thunderbird --allow-downgrade

to revert the profile. Just the same way you can do that with Firefox.

Thunderbird is apparently fixed now:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=308421
https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/143.0.1/releasenotes/

No idea how many people were affected, but might be worthwhile to fast-track this fix into stable.
