[Stable Update] 2022-11-14 - Kernels, GNOME 43.1, Plasma 5.26.3, Systemd 251.8, Firefox 106.0.5, Thunderbird, LXQt

Night light and Pamac update indicator is working fine for me on Gnome/nvidia driver, but yes Firefox has problems now on nvidia, see here:

Hi,

Did I bricked my installation? I was trying to do full system update but my idiot self thinks otherwise and try to update openssl and lib32-openssl first instead, it updates successfully but now I canā€™t do update, some app donā€™t open and the error I got from terminal is error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.1.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory, so is there a workaround to solve this issue?

In addition to this, I canā€™t even do sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.1.1 to try to solve it (sudo part canā€™t be executed)

Why you symlink when there are packages for that: openssl-1.1 and lib32-openssl-1.1 @deanrih

No update from my side since months or years and it works apparently perfectly after this update that I have finally made! Thanks for the good work! It is impressive!

Because it wasnā€™t installed yet, and now I canā€™t do pacman and paru to install openssl-1.1 and lib32-openssl-1.1, as I said, instead of doing full update, I update openssl and lib32-openssl separately, which is a dumb thing to do by me

EDIT:

Currently waiting for the latest ISO to be downloaded before I even shutdown the PC in hope that I can fix it through chroot

I fix the issue byā€¦ copying and pasting previous openssl and lib32-openssl version files from old Manjaro version, not the most elegant solution but hey, it works, lmao

Edit:

I havenā€™t managed to do proper update yet because I need to go to work, will post an update if I successfully upgrade the system with this approach or not

Boring.

Upgrade went smoothly, everything seems to be working properly.

I can no longer output to my 2 external monitors at 144 Hz. The monitors are connected via docking station. When I login I run a command to extend them both to the right of my laptop display at their native resolution (2560x1440) and both at 144 Hz. This no longer works. The third display remains off and I get xrandr saying ā€œConfigure crtc x failedā€.

Also this was already a problem, but when I login with the dock and monitors attached, my desktop is shifted one screen. So the wallpaper of display 1 is now on 2, and the wallpaper of display 2 is now on 3, and the wallpaper of 3 is in the void. Among other problemsā€¦ But at least I could still use them before.

Now I can only use them if I set them to 60 Hz, but this is unacceptable for my uses. Iā€™d also like to know why the monitors no longer turn on immediately when I plug the dock in (this is why I wrote the login script) - but this was a problem before the update too.

But yeah, bottom line: I can no longer use my dock-attached external displays the way Iā€™ve been using them and I donā€™t know how/why. Iā€™ve looked online relating to this crtc thing but the details are vague. And the only ā€œhelpfulā€ resources Iā€™ve found just tell me to lower the refresh rate, but once again they were fine operating at the high refresh rates before my updating today. I really hope I can get this resolved asap! I may try undoing the updates with timeshift to see if it was truly the updates that caused it - let me know if this is safe to do lol.

Edit: now sddm isnā€™t loading for me. Not sure if related but makes it very hard to debug issues now since Iā€™m stuck in a TTYā€¦

Edit 2: I have restored to yesterdayā€™s files. I can log in again. Still having the same monitor issues though so I guess it wasnā€™t the updates. But Iā€™m still at a loss. It was working just fine this morningā€¦ Anyone got any ideas how to ā€œdebugā€ this new fangled thunderbolt stuff?

Edit 3: Itā€™s not hardware related. Everything works fine on the Manjaro live USB. Iā€™m pretty confident itā€™s KDE at the point. Would love to clear the relevant settings+cache (i.e. not all of them).

Running gnome and when tring to open file browser nothing happens.

When trying from command line I get:

Namespace Nautilus is already loaded with version 4.0

I have a feeling that we have stumbled into a similar root cause of problem,
but in my case the whole system start has been getting compromised
by whole disk LUKS encryption, initiramfs is unable to decrypt my partition at boot time,
I am guessing by lacking of libcrypt.

So I have to use my system in a downgraded state, I have fled the testing branch,
but the stable branch has been getting kill my system also since yesterday.

Similar issue occurred with me at the testing branch few days ago,
and yesterday in the stable branch again.

Thank you for the update, this update pretty much ran smooth except that Hotspot no longer works. The Hotspot is when you click on the Network icon there is the option to click on Hotspot and turns your system into a wireless hotspot. The hotspot still goes on but does not provide any internet to the connected devices. This has worked flawless until my update yesterday. Anything I can try?

I also tried to update my home directory with skel, but no change.

[Solution] Installing fresh sway from the 2022-12-11 build fixed it! My guess about the problem is that it stems from wireplumber, because I had switched to it, and the installer uses pipewire-media-session. Either that or theyā€™re just configuration wizards.

This info maybe helpful to fix the bug.
What do you think @openminded ?

āÆ sudo pacman -F libcrypto.so.3
core/openssl 3.0.7-2 [installed: 1.1.1.q-1]
    usr/lib/libcrypto.so.3
multilib/lib32-openssl 1:3.0.7-1 [installed: 1:1.1.1.q-1]
    usr/lib32/libcrypto.so.3

After recent update, my quick menu looks ugly, icons are too big, and also the calendar widget looks too big. Can anyone help me figure out whatā€™s the problem?
My screen resolution is 1920x1080
I already tried rename ~/.local/share and ~/.config and ~/.cache . Nothing helped. After reboot I think the system was reset, however, the icon/widget size are still too big. Also, checked the Display->Scale setting. Itā€™s set to 100%
I have ā€˜user themesā€™ gome extension. Itā€™s set to default. If I switch to gnome classic, the quick menu looks much better, but itā€™s light themed, regardless the dark mode is on. Maybe missing some deps?

Iā€™ve created some fresh ISOs with this update included. Those who want to start fresh can try those: Release 202211150747 Ā· manjaro/release-review Ā· GitHub Gnome users may want to downgrade to mesa 22.1.7 to get Calamares displayed properly when trying on Virtual Machines: Calamares renderes Black on Gnome 43.1 when using Administrator Mode (polkit/sudo) Ā· Issue #2074 Ā· calamares/calamares Ā· GitHub

after update, paperWM focus mode not work on gnome43, someone try to downgrade to gnome42, still not work

After the update, both browsers (Firefox and Chrome) stopped being able to find my microphone. It sometimes works again after restarting the browsers. It (sometimes?) stops working after going to sleep (closing the laptop lid). I donā€™t know the exact cause that triggers this issue.

How to reproduce:

  1. Go to some website that uses the microphone (e.g. Zoom, Slack, mictests, etc.).
  2. Try using the microphone. It doesnā€™t work. The browser canā€™t find any microphone.

Iā€™m using KDE/Plasma on X11 and pipewire. Iā€™m sometimes connecting a bluetooth headphone. Still, when this bug happens, the browser fails to find even the built-in laptop microphone.

I initially thought the issue was related only to Chrome, so I opened issue 1383943. But now I see both browsers have issues.

maybe try standalone applications, instead webpages.

i have no experience with Zoom, Slack etc. but discord as sample you can use on a website or download the application. Or use mumble to get sure its a browser problem or something else.

On my Laptop i can no longer connect with my VPN after this stable update. I installed first openssl-1.1 and after the same error i also installed lib32-openssl-1.1 packages as you suggested. I also restarted my system after the install but no success.

The Eddie OpenVPN Client still use the newest OpenSSL 3.0.7 that is installed and refused the connection. On my second PC with the older (not updated) Manjaro (Open SSL 1.1 ) still works without problems.

How can i fix this issue with the newest stable release? Do i have to uninstall OpenSSL 3.0?

This is the logfile from my (not updated) PC where the VPN still works:

Update failing due to keyring problem. Not a huge deal for me, since next month im gonna do a fresh install with kernel 6.1 lts i supose, so dont bother much with me lolā€¦ Im not much of a programmer, please go gentle:

yesterday 14/11/22 ive tried ā€˜sudo pacman -Syuā€™, it started by updating the arch linux keyring or something. Today it fails to download the update by terminal or pamac app. Ive tried syyu, downloading manjaro keyring, and the comands ive found in the forum (sudo pacman-mirrors --continent and pacman --query --info manjaro-keyring or something). Im able to provide more info if needed.
*UPDATE ive solved the issue using timeshift lol
