Display Corruption with RX 580

Powercolor Red Dragon RX 580 is giving display corruption in Manjaro.

The graphics card works under Windows 11 without corruption.

The integrated graphics adapter works under Manjaro without corruption.

The issue seems to happen spontaneously. I believe it begins with the screen briefly briefly going black.

The issue began as soon as Manjaro was booted with the graphics card installed.

The corruption appears as horizontal blocks of flickering static

Hi @tibiapill,

I’m afraid that isn’t a lot of info to work with, so in order for us to be able to better provide assistance, more information is necessary. To that end, please see:

Hope you manage!

Tip:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead of like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

Please edit your post accordingly.

Thanks Mirdarthos!

I hope the post is up to scratch now.

The vimeo video should be converted soon.

you says that it works on integrated but according to the inxi output only the amd is detected…
try switching kernels: 5.18, 5.10

It worked on integrated before I installed the discrete GPU.

I’ll try switching kernels and report back.

so you have installed the amd afterwards? … still doesnt explain why only the amd hardware is detected and not the intel one …ok try the kernels

so you have installed the amd afterwards?

Exactly. Here’s a post with the system information prior to installing the AMD gpu.

so what happened to this one?:

Device-1: Intel CometLake-S GT2 [UHD Graphics 630] vendor: Gigabyte
    driver: i915 v: kernel arch: Gen9.5 process: Intel 14nm built: 2016-20

did you blacklisted it or what? because you still have the same cpu… and do you have the same issue after switching kernels?

No changes to config made by me manually, I only installed the card.

I have something else running that I need to finish before I switch kernels.

Could possibly be that the motherboard is using displayport passthrough on the USB-C port, with the AMD gpu daisy chained to a DP input on the motherboard

dont see why that would be the reason for not detecting the intel graphics, since its integrated into the cpu… maybe reinstalling drivers could help

Only speculating that perhaps when the motherboard senses a signal on the DP in port it disables the integrated GPU.

It uses the same USB-C output for integrated graphics as it does for discrete graphics passthrough.

Seems to be the case.

My guess is the graphics corruption under Manjaro happens when the iGPU is disabled (or possibly re-enabled?). It seems to happen after the screen briefly goes black.

The black screen occurrence is a little intermittent but the graphics corruption / fix correlates well with it.

I’m about to switch kernels.

thats interesting… hopefully the kernels will help … also there may be related setting in bios for this
