XFCE Keeps Randomly Freezing

Every lets say 15-30 minutes, my desktop hard freezes, and when i move around it either does nothing, chops to another frame where the mouse is in a difference place, or the mouse moves, but i cant do anything then the mouse stops moving, ive let my computer sit for over an hour and it continues to be frozen and nothing works other than hard rebooting it. I’m afraid that this hard reboot will cause some sort of corruption if not already. I use this computer for work / coding and if i lose my progress ill be set behind quite a bit. please help me.

Hello and welcome,

Consider to add some information about your system as described here:

My system info is in my profile

Fair enough.

Cheers!

That doesnt really help since all their issues arent related to mine

Hello @Motz

Information… information are needed.

:arrow_up_small: That doesn’t help either.

What we are looking for are logs like:

or

journalctl -b -1

for the log of the last boot.

Okay, i tried pasting the logs, and its too big, can you just message on discord or something so i can give you them, i dont know how else to show you

Try this:

given_command | curl -T - https://aptget.xyz/somename.log

Then paste the link here. If you can’t, since you are new here, do it this way:

Output:

https://aptget.xyz/asjk/somename.log

given_command: command not found
and the aptget part of that looks like ubuntu…

edit: im stupid my bad

Sorry, but outch :man_facepalming:

That was an example, i thought you can coding…

Yeah, i havent slept and it just didnt click in my head until now

Connection Timed out, just message me on discord: Motzumoto#9773

@Motz
Seems there is a downtime, but that works:

journalctl -b -1 | curl -F'file=@-' https://0x0.st

PS: sorry, no time for discord chatting.

I cant post links

See above, i already said, what you have to do. :arrow_double_up:

Oh, are you looking for the end part of the link? if so here it is
in9d.txt
Im sorry if this is also wrong

Soo last thing what i read here is that timeshift does a backup:

Question: Do you have a swap partition or a swapfile active?

swapon -v

It seems to me you were running out of ram…

Nov 10 07:18:44 Nori-Owner kernel: xfwm4: page allocation failure: order:4, mode:0x40cc0(GFP_KERNEL|__GFP_COMP), nodemask=(null),cpuset=/,mems_allowed=0

I assume not:

Nov 10 07:18:48 Nori-Owner kernel: 0 pages in swap cache
Nov 10 07:18:48 Nori-Owner kernel: Swap cache stats: add 0, delete 0, find 0/0

Nov 10 07:18:48 Nori-Owner kernel: Total swap = 0kB
Nov 10 07:18:48 Nori-Owner kernel: 4176688 pages RAM

Create a little swapfile of 512MB to avoid this problem of stuttering.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/swap#Swap_file

I have more than enough ram, 16gb of ddr 4 so that cant be the issue, and i was going to make a timeshift backup, but i had to do other things and i couldnt monitor it, so i canceled it, it cant be a ram issue, and the swapfile thing, i dont have that.

Do i edit it with nano?

Which kernel rare you running?

uname -r

Kernel: 5.4.74-1-MANJARO

I saw that on the kernel downgrade pages most of them arent LTS and Recommended, in my head i thought this was a better option.

I’d like to mention this entire time i havent had the freezing issue, i had it while i was on firefox. i have no idea what was happening before, maybe it was because i was watching youtube too??? :man_shrugging:
