WiFi problems after 2023.12.10 Stable Update

My wireless quit working on one machine after this update. Then the entire system froze. I even rebooted with 6.1 kernel with no success.
I had to use Timeshift to revert to the previous version before the update.

Same here. The computer freezes; I have to switch the computer off because it becomes stuck on shutdown on thinks network-related. Bummer…

It seems to work with Xorg and kernel 5.15 (but in 5.15 I have no wireless driver; maybe is that one the cause of the problem?) (update: it also works with wayland and 5.15 kernel, so definitely kernel-related)

I will try to dig out something with the logs. But it’s complex because the PC locked hard… it was working ok with the 23.12.01 update, it broke now with 23.12.10.

Same here, but I do not need to switch the wifi on/off. It dies in the same way after a while (20-30 seconds). It happens with 6.6 and 6.1 kernels.

Same here, not sure where the best place is to raise an issue though. Almost lost so much data because of the system freezes.

Same here, network not working.

Howto revert back with timeshift ?
Timeshift not working for me. Have nothing to revert back to.

Howto solv this problem ?

The network is not working after the update.

My browsers do not start up either.

Can someone please help to solve the problem?

I have a laptop, so have no access to networkcard.

How do I proceed with this problem ?

Is this problem adressed in some other thread ?

Ok, I have now reverted to kernel 5.15 and wifi is now working again.

So it is a problem with newer kernel after update.

There are multiple threads active right now with similar issues as you guys.

Seems to be kernel related.

Some report it works on linux61, some have to use linux515.

You could try to install drivers from AUR, but I would say it’s better to use a different kernel until the issue is fixed.

Edit
I just saw this, might be related.

And

Try to sync and update. Make sure your mirrors are up to date before running update by confirming with pacman-mirrors.
If at least one mirror is [OK] run sudo pacman -Syu

Same problem here using Kernel: 6.1.66-1-MANJARO. No problem if I boot using Kernel: 5.10.203-1-MANJARO.

6.1.67 and 6.6.6 will fix that issue. There is a potential fix also proposed but not yet reviewed.

I mean, sure, if you want to complicate things for you. Otherwise I would just use the 515 kernel until it is fixed. I feel that a severe issue like this with so many users affected, the fix will be in the repos very soon on all kernels.

ok, thanks - but it’s not at all complicated for me , and yes i’m sure this will be sorted out soonest…

6.1.65-2 and 6.5.4-3 ship with a potential fix: [PATCH] wifi: nl80211: fix deadlock in nl80211_set_cqm_rssi (6.6.x) Upstream however decided to revert the offending patch as stated already. Anyway, test and give feedback.

WiFi broke for me. Specifically, I am using rtl8821cu-morrownr-dkms-git from AUR. Had to revert to LTS kernel 5.15 to regain use of my USB WiFi adapter.

Kernels 6.1 and 6.6 have just been updated (Stable), specifically to fix WiFi issues resulting from the regression @philm mentions. Try updating now to see if your issue is also resolved. Cheers.

6.6.5 is bad, if you see it sneeze at it, cross your heart and say a silent prayer. If you see 6.6.6 its good, like a baby rabbit bunny, kiss it, pet it, download and install it. At least that’s what worked for me, if it does not work for you, well, Merry Christmas to you too.
