[Unstable Update] March 2024 Edition

No major issues either. Also reset theme icons etc. to breeze.Thought I would try using wayland and not having any luck but xorg is working so I will stay with that.

Currently Plasma 6 is in unstable Edge so to speak - stable branch will have to wait - we were aware of the issues beforehand as can be deduced from Prepare for a Plasma 6 release (#2) Ā· Issues Ā· Release plan / KDE Ā· GitLab posted earlier by @Yochanan

I tested SDDM with HiDPI a little bit more and this is what I came up with. I posted a link to the SDDM GitHub issue in the previous post and I think this is worth investigating before releasing Plasma 6 to stable branch.

To sum it up, to get SDDM working on HiDPI Screen (at least for my setup):
For Wayland I used kwin compositor as described in Arch Wiki

SDDM QT5:

  • X11
    • Set ServerArguments=-dpi <dpi> in the [X11] Section
    • Set CursorSize properly
  • Wayland
    • Works out of the box, no additional setup for HiDPI needed
    • Even on multiple monitors with each different fractional scaling

SDDM QT6:

  • X11
    • HiDPI is impossible
  • Wayland
    • HiDPI can be configured (workaround) by manually specifying scaling with env variable and manually setting CursorSize
    • Workaround is not ideal, it will not work properly for setups with multiple monitors with different scaling

For people having SDDM problems, have you tried moving/deleting /etc/sddm.conf? As per man sddm.conf it reads configuration files in the order below and settings in later ones take precedence. So /etc/ssdm.conf takes precedence over /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.confā€¦

Configuration loads all files in the configuration directories followed by the configuraā€
tion file in the order listed below with the latter having highest precedence. Changes
should be made to the local configurations.

/usr/lib/sddm/sddm.conf.d
System configuration directory

/etc/sddm.conf.d
Local configuration directory

/etc/sddm.conf
Local configuration file for compatibility

2 posts were split to a new topic: Manjaro-settings-manager has light theme instead of dark

Yes, I event edited it, because it had HiDPI set to false on both X11 and Wayland. SDDM HiDPI problems seem to only affect QT6 (SDDM 0.21 built with QT5 works)

Arch reverted to kf5, fixing this bug temporarily.

Have linux68 kernel installed, last updated on 03-March-2024 (rc6 ā†’ rc7).

While updating the extra/intel-ucode

I noticed the
==> WARNING: Deprecated option 'ALL_microcode' found. Update '/etc/mkinitcpio.d/linux68.preset' to use the 'microcode' hook instead.

May be the preset file should be updated.

Maybe read the thread before posting. This was addressed already.

AFAIK the preset file is generated only when missing. As you already had it on your system, you need to adjust it yourself or let it re-generate.

yeah, found in the [Unstable Update] March 2024 Edition - #19 by Yochanan
Thx.

yeah, I renamed the preset file (added extension of .my_backup) and executed sudo pacman -Syu linux68 to re-install the kernel:
-) in the initcpios update stage the warning is gone;
-) the preset file now has not the ALL_microcode parameter.

Thx.

Hi,

The network is broken with linux68

Wish You well

If you use RC kernels you should expect bugs and know how to deal with and report them properly. ā€œThe network is brokenā€ is useless. Use a stable kernel release.

Kernel 6.8 has moved to stable and is no longer a -RC release. the rc-7 version did have networking issues, but Iā€™m writing from kernel 6.8 right now and Iā€™m not seeing networking issues. Maybe I just got lucky

My bad, thought I was posting in the Stable Update thread. Still a useless bug report though.

As a bug report: yes.
But this might have just been a simple ā€œheads upā€ to fellow Manjaro unstable users, perhaps even with details following later when there was time to investigate.

No Network issues on my side:
@Delor3an91 you are on stable I guess which have rc6 of 6.8 Kernel.

On 6.8 some sensors are not working correctly, because Tuxedo Control Center no longer shows fan speed or temperatures. All works well on 6.7.

on kernel 6.8 I canā€™t mount a ntfs drive:
dmesg:

request_module fs-ntfs3 succeeded, but still no fs?
/dev/sde1: Canā€™t open blockdev

I can mout it with kernel 6.7.9.

*What I did in the past is to disable ntfs from kernel with:

maybe something changed in the kernel related to ā€œntfsā€?

for this issue:

usb: port power management may be unreliable
