Turn off workspace switcher animation in cinnamon

I am a Linux novice and recent convert to Manjaro. I had been using Mint for many years. Is there a way to turn off the workspace switcher animation in Manjaro cinnamon? I did check the setting and installed tweaks but neither offer an option to turn off the animation.

Thank you
WJB

Hi @WJB, and welcome!

I suspect this is your best bet:

Additionally, to be able to provide assistance, more information is necessary. To that end, please see:

Hope you manage!

:bangbang: Tip: :bangbang:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead of like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as described above.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

:bangbang::bangbang: Additionally

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Please edit your post accordingly.

Hi @WJB and welcome to the Manjaro community.

This link concerns Cinnamon on Linux Mint, though it should nonetheless be applicable to recent Cinnamon versions with Manjaro:

A comment here from the Linux Mint Forums suggests:

Being that this post is from 2014 I’m uncertain how relevant it might be today.

I have pristine standard Cinnamon Installation from the minimal ISO.
Nothing customized by me.

No extra extensions.
No tweaks.

You mean the little indicator that is briefly shown when switching workspaces?
This can be annoying indeed.
For me there is a sound effect associated with it as well.

But it is easy to disable that little indicator:

System Settings → Preferences section → Workspaces → Enable Workspaces OSD (was active by default for me)

HTH

soundofthunder your link did the trick! I was looking for “animations” and should have been looking for “effects.” No option in Manjaro to only turn off the workplace switcher effect. But turning off all the effects accomplished what I needed. Thank you very much! :slightly_smiling_face:
