Any help would be appreciated!

Hi @george-zh, and welcome!

In order for us, or anyone for that matter, to be able to provide assistance, more information is necessary. To that end, please see:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8 --color=0

Please also note and heed: Forum Rules - Manjaro

Those with privacy concerns: note that when -z, or --filter is used, all personally identifiable information is filtered out from the resulting inxi output. :eyes:

Hope you manage!

:bangbang: Tip for legibility: :bangbang:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead of like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as described above.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

:bangbang::bangbang: Additionally

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Please edit your post accordingly.

Note that the above text is partially pre-prepared as a general introduction for new forum users. Please take the time to follow links given and learn how to create
effective support requests and encourage quality responses.

Working in Windows is not a sign of quality, and not all hardware will work with Linux.

If your device is a cheap winbook - chances are the device has been specifically crafted to work with Windows.

You could try to search the Linux Hardware database for vendor-id 0c76 and device id 9688 - I was confused by the lack of a touchpad and thought the above was unconfigured touchpad - appears to be a sound card JMTek ME6S.

You may be able to get it working if you sync the package xf86-input-synaptics but it is for x11 and is not likely to work with wayland, so if using KDE Plasma be sure to have the plasma-x11-session package synced AND selected the Plasma X11 session before signing in.

Since you have a mouse attached - you should verify if the touchpad get’s disconnected when a real mouse is attached.

It seems you’d be out of luck:

There is only one(1) listing, and it’s for an audio device; hence I asked for the output of the inxi command, as above.

I’ve tried switching to x11 session with xf86-input-synaptics and plasma-x11-session synced, but this didn’t work.

The touchpad wasn’t detected even before the mouse was attached.

I might be totally missing it, but it seems it’s not even available, all I can find is a mouse.

This leads me to think one of two things:

  1. You mentioned that it works with Windows. So boot into Windows and ensure fast startup is disabled. Also check that Secure-/Fast boot in the BIOS/UEFI is disabled.
  2. Confirm that it’s not disabled in the BIOS/UEFI.

Fast startup is disabled in Windows, both secure and fast boot in the UEFI are disabled.

I’ve searched the UEFI menu, but there are no options related to the touchpad

In that case, we’ve reached the end of my knowledge and reasoning skills. Or more eloquently put:

:man_shrugging:
I dunno man.

Sorry. :sob:

Thanks for your help anyway!

So this is some kind of desktop system - and you have connected an externel touchpad of unknown origin/make/model.

But then there is also a battery - indicating a laptop of unknown origin/make/model.

The CPU is an old (2015) i7-6700HQ Desktop CPU - no wonder inxi is confused

If the touchpad was connected to the system when you generated the inxi-system information, then the device is not detected at all.

This points to a device which is built for use with Windows and Windows only.

I do find it a bit strange the device is appears undetected.

Can you please verify if the output of lsusb changes after you attach or detach the device?

Another method of troubleshooting can be done this way

  • detach the device
  • open a terminal
  • switch to root context sudo su
  • run udevadm monitor
  • attach the device
  • watch the terminal the events generated by the kernel

Also check the device vendors web page to verify if the device has any Linux support.

Got curious and search for laptop with mainboard type SH106 and got this

If this is indeed the system in question - then I suggest you talk to the vendor…

Must read before buying :

Each of our laptops will help customers to install the system and can be used normally. Please do not replace other systems to our laptops without authorization.
