Locale file changes

C.UTF8 locale is now included in glibc:

Credits @diabonas for this change. Systemd wants us to include C.UTF8 by default and it seems the locale may be in included by glibc upstream in the future. To fix building and avoid nasty fixing in devtools, we include the locale in the package. See systemd/systemd#23252 (comment) FS#74864 : [systemd] >= 251 breaks devtools' locale

There is a pacsave for /etc/locale.conf as it has been removed from the filesystem package.

UPDATE: With filesystem 2022.06.08-2, it will automatically restore /etc/locale.conf if it did not already exist.

There is a pacnew for /etc/locale.gen. Please review it and regenerate your locale if necessary.

QEMU >= 7.0.0 changes split package setup

2022-05-09 - David Runge

With the update to qemu 7.0.0 the package has been turned into a more fine grained split package utilizing meta packages.

  • The qemu package is now virtually provided by the meta packages qemu-base, qemu-desktop and qemu-full.
  • The functionality of qemu prior to 7.0.0 is replaced by qemu-desktop
  • The functionality of qemu-headless is replaced by qemu-base
  • The functionality of qemu-arch-extra and qemu-headless-arch-extra is replaced by qemu-emulators-full
  • The meta package qemu-full provides all QEMU related packages (excluding qemu-guest-agent)

Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (5.15.2) with this library (5.15.3)
  • Check the mirror you use is up to date:
sudo pacman-mirrors -f 5 && sudo pacman -Syyu
  • If you use qt5-styleplugins (AUR), rebuild it:
pamac build qt5-styleplugins
FIXED? VPN via L2TP might not work anymore

See FS#74089 - networkmanager 1.36 breaks vpn with networkmanager-l2tp

You may need to downgrade to 1.34.0:

sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/libnm/libnm-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/n/networkmanager/networkmanager-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

FIXED? DSL/PPPoE may require downgrading 2 packages

See my-internet-connection-is-no-longer-working and FS#73948 - networkmanager 1.36.0 breaks DSL connection

Please check if 1.36.2-1.0 of NetworkManager improve things, else downgrade to 1.34.0:

sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/libnm/libnm-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/n/networkmanager/networkmanager-1.34.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

New warnings when building the fallback initcpio - Possibly missing firmware for module: bfa, qed, qla1280, qla2xxx

That’s due to the recent changes to the linux-firmware package. Note these are warnings, not errors. You only need those firmwares if you have Mellanox Spectrum switches, Marvell devices, Qualcomm SoCs, Cavium LiquidIO server adapters, QLogic devices and Broadcom NetXtreme II 10Gb ethernet adapters. if you have that hardware you can install linux-firmware-qlogic to get rid of those warnings. If you do not have that hardware you can safely ignore those warnings.

pamac install linux-firmware-qlogic

I have no idea, why is this error.

Solution:

  • Downgrade to wireplumber v0.4.10, then no error appears after reboot.

I reported the issue:

There is a new configuration in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf.pacnew in this update.

# MODULES_DECOMPRESS
# Decompress kernel modules during initramfs creation.
# Enable to speedup boot process, disable to save RAM
# during early userspace. Switch (yes/no).
#MODULES_DECOMPRESS="yes"

When “no” is set to MODULES_DECOMPRESS, that means “Enable to speedup boot process and disable to save RAM”. Right?

I thought, no compression and no decompression make boot startup faster.

There is no info about this configuration.

No, the comma separates what “yes” and “no” do. Decompress for faster boot, compress for lower RAM utilisation.
The wording here could be improved.

My cifs mount fails with error 22 after the update.

I think it has to do with the updated 5.18 kernel. This bug report indicates that the error occurs for some servers since 5.18.8 and has possibly been fixed with 5.18.10. Not for me, it seems.

I’m using the 5.15 kernel for now.

Edit: Adding “vers=2.0” as a mount option seems to work, too (see this thread).

Noone will look at that. However you may want to comment on this one: wireplumber segfault: system boot and could see in my dmesg (#305) · Issues · PipeWire / wireplumber · GitLab

After updating Firefox would not start for me and crashed to the crash reporter, using firefox --safe-mode also results in a immediate crash and the crash reporter. The content of the crash report does not give me any clues what could be the issue. Starting firefox from the command line does not output any errors or messages.

Solution: remove ~/.mozilla/ and start firefox with a clean profile (and syncing settings solved this for me)

EXACTLY, ESPECIALLY since 5.25 has features 5.24.6 doesn’t.

alternate views to think about manjaro branchs;

when you are in the testing branch, you are effective in the process of testing manjaro with the intent of delivering stable releases/updates. and stable plasma release still is 5.24.6 as deemed by the manjaro team (which is wise with it being the LTS release)

your self-centered intentions being in the testing branch might be to have one layer of insulation to avoid possible rogue updates, while still getting the latest updates, but it just doesnt work that way, not in software testing.

the only branch that is devoid of this debacle is the unstable branch. so either move to the unstable branch OR be happy with what you get, when you get it. (this statement in only meant for ppl in testing branch who keep whining over delayed updates and hypocritical enough to call other ppl silly)

So, to be clear if we want to test out this new feature (speedup boot process), do we uncomment the MODULE_DECOMPRESS line and leave it with the value of ‘yes’ ?

Just want to be sure I am making the correct change. Thank you!

Can you tell me the exact grep command you are running for this output @Zesko? I want to check if I also am having this issue or not. Sorry for the ‘newb’ question, still learning my way around Linux.

Thanks for the help!

Correct. Remember to generate initramfs images with mkinitcpio after.
