Also have exactly the same problem as @hannodv and I am also on old AMD Radeon (Sapphire R9 290).

After log-in screen (into Wayland session), just flashing happens and KDE Plasma desktop crashes back to login screen after applying this update.

And it is not an issue with linux-kernel … both under kernel 6.8 (which is EOL) and under LTS 6.6 KDE Plasma, Wayland session just flashes and then crashes.

For the time being I only time-shifted back and cancelled the update.

After changing to amdgpu, I am not having any issue anymore. Are you using the radeon or amdgpu module?
inxi -G
will show what you are using. The Arch linux wiki gives good guidance on changing the kernel module to amdgpu.

As noted by @hannodv it seem to be a problem with the old radeon driver. Your card is supported by amdgpu and instructions on how to switch to it are at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU#Enable_Southern_Islands_(SI)and_Sea_Islands(CIK)_support.

Thanks for this ‘one-liner’. :+1:

Funny enough, when I tried it out, I noticed the same error message on /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/ permission has already been logged on May 25th in my pacman.log because of a Stable Update then. Must have slipped through the crack.

I must say, as @jackdinn says in post #22, there is something fishy with bluetooth devices after update.

I’m using a bluetooth speaker (ASUS ZenBook). After update it started to fail to play sounds after powered on and auto-connected. The volume slider wouldn’t go to previous level. After reconnecting the device from settings, and using volume up/down buttons on speaker, the sound started working sometimes. But then the speaker turned off itself after a while. And the intervals between the power on & reconnect procedure and the sudden power off became shorter and shorter. After a few hours it wouldn’t play sound at all. The settings said connected, no sound and even couldn’t disconnect. (Also when I switched to internal audio and fast-forwarded a video, the system froze, but it’s probably another issue)

After a timeshift leap to a state before update, everything began to work and works as intended until now (1 day).

The weird thing is, there was no bluetooth pkg update at my system (GNOME), it has to be something else as bluez-qt pkg, which @jackdinn mentions.

I shall tell you something that is really odd, i cant believe its not just a coincidence, but, after i found that i needed to mask the TMP2 device to stop it trying to mount at boot & hanging my system boot for 2 minutes, the system now booted properly and my USB bluetooth device also worked again. Its been fine since.

Make of it what you will :confounded:

This update seems to permanently kill my display - once logged from sddm to the plasma session my display started blinking rapidly and then shut down permanently. I guess some unsupported mode fried it for good.

(I’m using mesa, might be related to the issues other folks reported.)

within the past few stable updates I experienced a display issue too that seemed to coincide with an update/reboot… ended up the DP port on the monitor died… I’m still using the same monitor now, just off one of it’s HDMI ports.

Hi there !
So if i run kernel 5.4 and cgroup2 i should update without any problem ?
Does anyone can confirm this ?
Thanks !

I can’t speak for kernel 5.4 but you should be using a newer kernel anyway. 6.1 and 6.6 are good LTS choices. It appears some users are having issues booting with older kernels, so you might want to install a newer kernel, reboot, then start the system update.

If mount | grep cgroup outputs cgroup2, you shouldn’t have issues booting, unless you have a separate issue, of course.

Thanks for the reply but it didn’t work out with the 5.4 kernel, not even when chroot and modify the grub !
However changing the kernel with a newer one did the trick !

Thank to both of you very very much. @MrLavender the instructions made it very, very clear what card I am using and that I need to prefer loading amdgpu kernel module on Sea Islands (CIK) or more commonly known as AMD Radeon R9 290 graphic chips.

@hannodv thanks for reporting solution. I can now confirm that Manjaro out-of-the-box loads radeon kernel module. And I guess packages at current version have a trouble working with it.

If nothing else, this solution will work for more than just the 2 of us that confirmed it.

A post was split to a new topic: Issues after cancelling update

I also had a monitor die after recent updates. No idea if it is related.

Sounds like a failed backlight (or its driver). Can you see anything if you shine a bright light at the screen?

EDIT:

I forgot to reboot for several days, and I initially attempted a hibernate state.
On attempted resume it did a clean reboot. I found that the “resume” hook was missing from

/etc/mkinitcpio.conf

… so, restored that, ran

sudo mkinitcpio -P

and a reboot followed with several tests with hibernate (an essential function in my use case) is once again working fine.

I had the same problem a few months ago and went back to Kernel 6.1 LTS. This has solved the problem for me.

A post was merged into an existing topic: I would have expected Plasma 6.1

I had the same error.

error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
npm: /usr/lib/node_modules/npm/node_modules/cidr-regex/dist/index.js exists in filesystem
npm: /usr/lib/node_modules/npm/node_modules/is-cidr/dist/index.js exists in filesystem
Errors occured, no packages were upgraded.

I tried to uninstall them via “npm uninstall -g” with no effect.

Eventually, I resorted to delete both module folders in question manually and the update did succeed. (Don’t know if this is recommendable, though.)
