Here are all 3 symptoms I’ve discovered:
Desktop items not showing
Can’t start programs by clicking icons (only can start with Krunner)
When attempting to switch wallpapers they only show as black.
I’ve tried removing .cache (twice) and reinstalling anything to do with Plasma in Pamac, to no avail.
I sure hope someone can assist because I don’t want to reinstall unless I have no other choice.
Next time I will absolutely use Timeshift in advance.

Hi,
I just started Music and I get an error message that says “Gnome Music can’t connect to Tracker. Your music can’t be indexed if Tracker is not working”. So the problem seems to be tracker related but I don’t know what else to infer from this…
I’m having this same issue.
Here’s my inxi output:

This happened with the latest update. Something to note, I had to re-install my NVIDIA drivers from this update. As with OP, Krunner opens/runs things fine. Also something to note, once a program has been opened from Krunner, it can be clicked on / interacted with with no further issues from the task bar.
Running an application from the start menu causes the icon to briefly show in the taskbar before disappearing. Nothing I’ve tried to open from the start menu has worked; all the same programs I can open without issue from console after opening console through krunner.
[EDIT: I can open everything through krunner directly rather than going through console. Everything works fine through there.]
[EDIT, Part Deux] I also tried the full update. Nothing was set to update and everything seems to have installed fine the first time.
[EDIT 33 1/3] Clearing the cache and running ‘kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental’ did not resolve the issue.
Same problem here but i discovered that it occurs only on user account from which update was made. When i log on other user account everything is working properly.
Just to give a bit more insight, I ran the upgrade in two of my computers, but only one got affected by this.
My laptop that got affected:

create a new test user in system settings, reboot and log in with the test user …
if it has no issues its something messed up in your main user, so in that case, in your main user in your home directory rename the following folders:
.cache
to .cache.bak
.config
to .config.bak
and delete or rename the kscreen
folder in /home/.local/share/kscreen
reboot

if you have no issues with the test user, it is something in your main user causing it…
rename also the cache and config folders, as instructed above and reboot

@brahma That does the trick, creating new user makes everything works fine so the problem should be something related to it.
I’ll try the cache and config folders advice
Thanks
UPDATE: Deleting or renaming ~/.config folder fixed everything but I can’t figure out what is causing there the issue…
Anyway better than nothing! Thank you so much

its probably some plasma config messed up but figuring out which would be waste of time…
you can copy from the config.bak folder into the config folder your browser (firefox/brave…) folders so that you dont have to set them up again - of course you can copy folders of other programs too, but dont copy anything back related to plasma, so that the issue is not reintroduced again…
Thank you @brahma this did work for me, too!

same here… it’s not just a KDE config issue, the system is unusable after this upgrade. I did a restore from a backup and wait until a bug fix
I just installed this system 10 days ago …
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.102.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 6.1.9-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 31.1 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 530
Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
Product Name: OptiPlex 7040
Hey hey, thanks a ton @brahma , renaming the config folder worked like a charm. Issue is fixed, thanks so much!!
So after try to just moove the kscreen directory ( /home/.local/share/kscreen
)
i try to move the cache ( mv .cache .cache.bak
)
Then reboot Nothing Happend.
Then i try to move only the K file from .config
(cd .config ; mv k* K_backup
)
Then reboot Nothing Happend.
I will try with plasma (mv plasma* Plasma_backup
) file from .config
folder and y back…
And it works !
So, don’t remove all your .config
folder.
Juste go the .config
then remove your plasma configuration !
cd ~/.config; mv plasma* Plasma_backup
Thanks @brahma for finding the first clue !

The issue seems to be within the file .config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc
, specifically within this section:
[ScreenMapping]
itemsOnDisabledScreens=
After deleting the section (best to use vim or something that works on ~20 MB file), and rebooting, everything is back to normal.

Can confirm that this fixes the issue.

I’ve removed this section before updating
Updated the system, rebooted
Now the section is there again, but everything works!
Thanks
