No wifi on a fresh Manjaro KDE install

Alright I recently did a fresh install of Manjaro with KDE and for some reason have no wifi connections available. The only thing I do have is a wired connection called lo. I can tether my phone to my pc to provide temporary wifi but I would prefer a more permanent solution.

Hi @gibby9er9er0, and welcome!

In order for us, or anyone for that matter, to be able to provide assistance, more information is necessary. To that end, please see:

Please also note and heed: Forum Rules - Manjaro

Hope you manage!

:bangbang: Tip: :bangbang:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead of like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as described above.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

:bangbang::bangbang: Additionally

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Here is the result of inxi -v7azy

Thank you. However, it’s not what I requested, not exactly.

Nevertheless, it would seem the driver for this: :point_down:

…isn’t loaded for some reason. So let’s try loading it, and see what happens. Please run:

sudo modprobe mt7921e

…and test it again. No need to reboot.

If it works, then cool. Apparently we have to make it persistent. To do so, run:

echo "mt7921e" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/mt7921e_wifi.conf

…and reboot.

If not, I have no idea…so let’s hope it does!

An interweb search on the chip provides a lot of “the driver is known to be buggy”.

Maybe this thread could be of use? Mediatek MT7921e wifi driver issue - #8 by LeakyMemory

Specifically:

  1. You can see the PCI-ID under chip-ID
  2. You can see there’s now a wlp4s0 network interface

You seem to miss the interface in your inxi

I was trying to hurry and get this out before work and this was all I could find looking in the how to show sytem info. What was it you needed because this didn’t seem to fix anything

Ok so the solution was found here for anyone having this specific issue if you still have windows installed and nothing else works. Use the instructions in kiwey12’s comment about installing a driver.
