Can you tell us how you fixed it?
And select that reply as solution so others having the same issues can get help from this topic.

I did not fix it. What i meant was i fixed the post and added the inxi , following the Manjaro guide you linked

Sorry my bad

Not at all! I wrote it in a rush, it could easily be misunderstood. I apologize

Not quite sure, but the issue is most probably due to the NVIDIA Graphics.
Please see in the release announcement:

Just tried everything on here. The problem persists…

Just tried updating kernel and updating Nvidia drivers. After rebooting, the problem still presents itself

Hello,

I have the same Problem after the last update of ca. 360 packages: The Problem ist that the Lightdm starts and when the X-Server starts it died and then is repeating tried to start of lightdm.
I can login over SSH and then I give as root the command “systemctl stop lightdm”, so the repeating starting of Lightdm is stopping. Now I can login at the text console.

Then I try under my user-account the command “startx”: “The welcome music” plays but the screen ist black. With ctrl-alt-F2 I go to the next text console and see that the grafik system is started with the “ps” command. Bevore the upgrade I have selected over “optimus” the “NVIDIA-Grafik-Card” and it seems the the problem is the XOrg X-Server. I don’t know how I can select the Intel grafik card from the command line to test if I see the Desktop.

Here my inxi output:

Hello,

I have spend a partition for timeshift and I restor the snapshot from 1.2.2022 → now I have again a running machine. The packet manager say: 368 packages for install.

I would wait until there is a fix of the problem with the not running Xorg X-Server.

Best Regards
Andreas (agl)

Let me know if you find a solution to the problem!

Hello, my Englisch is not so good, I hope you understand what I write here:

  1. I go with timeshift back to the last working configuration.
  2. I select with the optimus-manager the intel graphics.
  3. I update the 377 packages.
  4. After reboot Lightdm repeats starting → from an another computer I login into the Notebook and place the command “sudo systemctl stop lightdm” → now I can login at the console of the Notebook.
  5. I install gdm and enable gdm → reboot
  6. After reboot the gdm works and the login works too → I have a running system/graphics.
  7. With the optimus-manager icon in the tray I try to select the nvidia grafik card but there come the message that I have to place two commands: “sudo systemctl enable optimus-manager” and “sudo systemctl start optimus-manager” → But it is not working.
  8. With “sudo systemctl status optimus-Manager” I get more than 1 messages that the optimus-manager can not start.

But I have a running system with intel graphics!

It seems that the nvidia driver and the optimus-manager don’t works correctly.

Best Regards
Andreas (agl)

Hello everyone,

I am having the same problem on my machine.
Manjaro was working fine but the first reboot after update and it went black as the picture you posted.

@Yellovv778 I wonder how you managed to give inxi output after that.

Nothing seems to work on my machine not even net connection as I am writing this post from another device.
Whereas dual boot windows works as well as ubuntu from external usb drive.

@Thenujan the login link you posted does not work sa the command terminal does not appeat for any Alt+Ctrl+F(1,2,3,4,5,6) combo.
Alt+ctrl+F2 disables the mouse and keyboard input and Alt+ctrl+F1 restores it Whatsup with that?

@Shirshendu I dont even have the NVDIA as my machine has iRisXe graphics.

Thank you all for reading my post,
I am aware its relatively and unnecessarily big

You can live boot using ubuntu and then chroot manually and then try them

Or you can live boot manjaro and then simply use manjaro-chroot script

manjaro-chroot -a
1 Like

Thanks that works and I can chroot now from external Manjaro USB.

But can you please explain if I can run change things in my original installation from there?
Please tell me if there is a way do to so

Maybe so I can run sudo pacman -Syuu?
Or maybe I can undo the update of my original manjaro installation?

Also in the manjaro boot Alt+ctrl+f3 does not lead to the TTY screen it just stays what it is and the keyboard becomes unresponsive. and Alt+ctrl+F1 reverts back the keyboard but screen never changes to anything else

yes you can. Everything you do inside chroot is being done on your installation.

i dont even know if it is possible but you can downgrade packages selectively

live iso or inside original installation?

Hello LoserLord, forgive my late response: i was able to get inxi output by logging into TTY2 , saving the output in a txt file and using curl to upload the file to a server. Took me 3 hours to figure it out

Okay !
Thank you @Yellovv778 and @Thenujan for your responses.

But I am not able to reach TTY2 or TTY3. The screen stays the same.

And return to earlier discussion with @Thenujan -

This was for the original installation.

So how to proceed with chroot and fix the problems I am suspecting the fprintid or the video drivers and want to change them

to switch video drivers
