Issue with Running Rise of Kingdoms on Manjaro Linux: Stuck at 6% and Black Screen

Hello,

I am a Linux user and I am using Manjaro, which is based on Arch Linux. I have been trying to run the game Rise of Kingdoms on my system, but I’m encountering some issues. When I try to launch the game, the loading screen gets stuck at 6%, and after the intro video finishes, the window just shows a black screen.

I have tried running the game on both Bottles and Lutris, but the issue persists on both platforms. The intro video finishes, but then the screen remains black, and the game doesn’t start.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @Novus_Exodus1, and welcome!

Considering you’re here, I’d hope so! :wink:

:wink:

All I can think of is perhaps trying a different, possibly newer Wine/Proton version.

But anyhoo, as a new forum user, please familiarise yourself with the many ways to use the forum efficiently, thereby saving both you and those trying to help much time and headaches

Please also note and heed: Forum Rules - Manjaro

Hope you manage!

:bangbang: Tip for legibility: :bangbang:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead of like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as described above.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

:bangbang::bangbang: Additionally

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Please edit your post accordingly.

Note that the above text is partially pre-prepared as a general introduction for new forum Users. Please take the time to follow links given and learn how to create effective Support requests and encourage quality responses.

Hello,

First of all, I apologize for the delayed response. Here’s the issue I’m facing: The game’s launcher works without any problems, and I can receive updates. However, when I try to launch the game through the launcher, I get an error. Could you please assist me with this?

Additionally, I am a new Linux user, so I believe I will need more guidance. Could you kindly explain the steps in a simple and clear manner? I greatly appreciate your help in advance.

Never played this but does this help:
https://www.reddit.com/r/RiseofKingdoms/comments/10l9mbi/how_to_play_rise_of_kingdoms_pc_version_on_linux/

The post does link to specific distribution steps, on arch you have to find the correct steps yourself or ask again here, there might be someone to help.

Forum users are no psychic, please share the error message.

You are right, but the game goes black and crashes without showing any error message.

I misunderstood and assumed there was an error message since you posted.
(google translate: Yanlış anladım ve siz gönderdiğinizden beri bir hata mesajı olduğunu varsaydım.)

I’ve added the language tag Turkish since that is what google translate tells me.
Google çeviri bana bunu söylediği için Türkçe dil etiketini ekledim.

There is probably not enough information here to guess.

All I see is that the game seems to crash; this could be related to how you have installed and configured the game or possibly a variety of other factors.

I note that in the 2 year old Reddit thread referenced by @Hanzel there are others obviously having difficulty with those instructions.

There’s the issue at “6%” that you mentioned, for example.

I don’t know if the above comment from that thread helps, but I also note a comment from the tutorial creator:

So, it would seem that Rise of Kingdoms is not an easy beast to tame on Linux, generally.

To the extent that it might potentially be contributing, I note you have no swap space configured. This can often be overlooked when installing Manjaro, but likely has no bearing on the immediate issue.

I’m not a Gamer but those Members who seem to live and breathe this type of game may potentially have something to add.

In the meantime, some resources which may be useful:

Regards.
