Gigabyte product: B550 Fails to Sleep

Hello. I’ve been wracking my brain to get this computer to suspend, but it won’t do it. It just goes right back to the login screen. Here are the results.

journalctl --boot 0 | sed -n -r "/Starting.+Suspend/,/Finished.+Suspend/p"  ✔

Are you by any chance running Spotify?

@Fabby Nope. I might be running Krita or Blender at the time.

I should also mention I just enabled SVM in my BIOS settings. Before that, it would suspend, and then immediately wake back up.

@thecrimsoneye I would say systemd triggers a hybrid suspend (RAM+SWAP) and since it is not configured, it will fail.

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and press the three dots below your original post and press the :pencil2: to give us more information so we can see what’s really going on.
Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

P.S. If you want to notify me that you did provide this information, please  this message and I’ll come back and have another look.

@megavolt Okay gotcha. How would I go about properly configuring it?

That would be described here

Okay, so I created the swap data. However, it still will not sleep. When I type the command to hibernate it, it seems to work, but then acts as if the system is restarting. Also, here’s what my system is.

Well, but:

Are you sure that you activate it?

Try to suspend on the terminal:

systemctl suspend

Normally a swapfile/partition is not need for suspending.

About hibernation:

@megavolt
I followed the instructions (or so I thought), and it’s showing as inactive. Where am I going wrong?

Erm… look at the fstab file and think again… every line starts with UUID or /dev/ … so do you really think that a line which starts with sudo bash is in any way correct? It is a command which adds the line, not line itself. Understand? Run it on the terminal.

@megavolt Listen. I’m a little new to this Linux thing, so I’m not exactly familiar with the command line. In any case, I went ahead and ran it in the terminal. How long should I wait for this?

Ok no problem… then do it manually:

  1. This will print the UUID. Run it on terminal:
lsblk -no UUID /dev/sda4
  1. Now open the fstab file as root and add a new line there:
UUID=<paste the UUID here> none swap defaults 0 0
  1. Remove the wrong line.
  2. This activates the swap:
sudo swapon /dev/sda4

Normally 50ms… there must be a problem with bash or the syntax is wrong (maybe hidden symbols pasted in?). Maybe not installed? I see you use zsh.

@megavolt All right I went ahead and did that, and the lights on my PC turn off for a split second and then came back on.

 /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a device; this may
# be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices that works even if
# disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).

erm… sorry, but what did you do? Typing the command

would not do this.

Please be more precise.

Also please, don’t put pictures of text in here. Copy and paste the text here as code with 3 backticks ` or tilde ~ on top and below. Like this:

Thanks.

@megavolt Sorry. When I clicked on the sleep button in the start menu.

@thecrimsoneye I am not familiar of what KDE would trigger at this button and where you can configure it, but this command should do suspend/sleep:

Run it on the terminal. Then you can be sure that its is not a problem of systemd.

@megavolt All right I entered the command, and now my computer seems to be in limbo. The displays are blank, but the computer LEDs are still on and the fans are spinning.

Ok, so there is a problem… the log would say more…

Reboot and enter this for the log of the previous boot:

journalctl --boot -1 --no-hostname --no-pager

If it is too long for pasting it here, upload it like that:

journalctl --boot -1 --no-hostname --no-pager | curl -F'file=@-' https://0x0.st

It will print a link on the terminal.
