Disabling touch pad does nothing. Stays active

Hi, I’m trying to disable my touch pad when typing/having a mouse connected in order to avoid accidentally touching it and messing up what I’m doing. The problem is that when I use the shortcut to disable the touch pad (or from settings) nothing happens and the touch pad stays active.
I’m a noob so I have no idea what the problem could be. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @vosto, and welcome!

Well, call me stupid, call me lazy, just not late for dinner, but I am unable to find out more about your touchpad from the output you provided. Please see:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop#Touchpad

It might help.

However, that might not help, in which case I have to ask for more information. Please see:

Please also provide the output of:

xinput

and

lsusb

Hope you manage!

:bangbang: Tip: :bangbang:

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Please edit your post accordingly.

Hi there.

I don’t have a perfect fix but depending on how much you want to use a mouse, I would consider de-activating the mouse at the BIOS level. I did that on a previous laptop & it works well.

Either way, I hope you find a fix soon.

Ruziel

Hello! Thank you for your instructions, I’ve edited my post accordingly.

Apparently I didn’t have xinput installed and installing it solved my issue. Thanks!
