Blackscreen after update all packages and install pulseaudio

I am a new user of Manjaro KDE Plasma. After installation, the download manager informed me that I had 295 updates, so I proceeded to update the system. Subsequently, I encountered an issue with my laptop speakers. I watched a video on YouTube that suggested installing PulseAudio to resolve this problem. Following the instructions, I installed PulseAudio and restarted my laptop.

After logging in, I encountered a black screen with only the mouse cursor visible, along with the Latte panel and application menu bar appearing blurred. If anyone has experienced a similar problem or know the solution, please share it with me.

Additional information:

  • I can use the system normally through the Latte bar.

  • I am unable to use the right-click function on the desktop.

I am using a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 with an AMD Radeon Vega 3 Graphics GPU.

Hi 3omdaughh. Welcome to the forum.

It might help if you tell us exactly what this issue was.

Specifically, what did this YouTube video suggest you do? How did you install PulseAudio?

Try creating a new user profile, reboot, and login to that profile to see it that is also affected.

As a new forum user, these links may be beneficial:

PulseAudio should be installed as default sound server on Manjaro KDE and should not need to be
installed, or reinstalled
PulseAudio has not released new packages recently so it would not be updated after installing
Pulseaudio is just a sound server and unlikely to be causing issues with display or mouse

If you are still ‘encountering an issue’ with speakers, please post more information about audio devices detected in PulseAudio

pactl list cards

And explain the issue in more detail

The speakers suddenly didn’t work after I updated the software.

The YouTube video suggests that if you download PulseAudio, this issue will be solved. I installed it through Pacman commands.

Thank you for the additional information. Authors of a YouTube video have absolutely no idea how relevant their suggestion may be to your specific case, and often, following those instructions blindly can lead to even more complication.

In this instance you effectively reinstalled the correct version of PulseAudio, even though it wasn’t needed. No harm done. From this point forward you will need to provide as much information about your system as possible, to help others find a solution.

To that end, some of the links already posted above may help, and possibly the output of these commands:

inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width
journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 --catalog --no-pager

Cheers.

The card profile is set to Analog Stereo Input only, so outputs to speakers and headphones are not accessible

To change card Profile to use Analog Stereo Output + Analog Stereo Input (Analog Stereo Duplex)

pactl set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_03_00.6 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo
