Downloaded the latest ISO of KDE Plasma.
Set secure boot off, UEFI enabled.
Boot the ISO off USB drive.
Install with wipe disk selection.
Once complete it does not reboot.
There appears to be an efi partition. (fat and ext4, the fat is marked esp & boot)

your topic states that you cant boot after install, and in your first post it says that you cant reboot after install… so what is it?
The machine will not boot. After install, after shutdown and power off/on, it does not boot.
Nothing shows on the screen (black) and the drive lights flickers occasionally.
It has not booted from the on board drive (which was specified as the target of the install) since the install completed.
I boots from the usb drive just fine.
check that you are booting from the disk you installed to. This is done in bios config.
did you installed it with open source drivers or proprietary?
chroot and provide logs:
manjaro-chroot -a
logs from the failed boot:
journalctl -b-1 -p4 --no-pager
I can only boot from the usb drive.
When I run manjaro-chroot -a
it returns:
grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sdb1. Check your device.map.
==> Mounting (ManjaroLinux) [/dev/sda2]
--> mount: [/mnt]
--> mount: [/mnt/boot/efi]
jornalctl produces:
Specifying boot ID or boot offset has no effect, no persistent journal was found.
chroot was successful… but there are no logs, it just doesnt even boot…
looks like its related to how you installed it… check the boot priority in your uefi
It offers 2 options, Manjaro and UEFI.
Both produce the same, nothing. A blank screen and the disk access light blinks occasionally.
As for the install, I use the graphical installer, chose to use the entire disk. There are no UEFI or other options.
from chroot reinstall grub:
grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader-id=manjaro --recheck
if there were no errors, update it:
mkinitcpio -P && update-grub
reboot and see
Ok, so there are errors.
EFI variables are not supported on this system.
EFI variables are not supported on this system.
grub-install: error: efibootmgr failed to register the boot entry: No such file or directory.
Does it make sense to just redo the install?
And, if so, since this current result is from following the instructions here: https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/UEFI_-_Install_Guide
What should I do different? Should I have a swap partition? How big? Should I wipe the drive with gparted before hand?
Obviously, need to set UEFI active and secure boot disabled.
were you chrooted when you run the grub install command?
and also post output from:
test -d /sys/firmware/efi && echo efi || echo bios
Yes, I was chrooted.
The output of the test command is just ‘efi’, nothing else.
I the meantime, though, I rebooted and it is now ok.
I’m at a loss.
I really appreciate all the help.
Do you think it is safe to just carry on?
what do you mean its ok? you normally booted into your installation?

try shutting down your pc, and see if everything works… if yes, i would say its fixed…
I’ll let you know. I’m confused…
