Nvidia driver downgrade

Nvidia drivers got downgraded to 550.100, therefore update with sudo pacman -Syuu. If you want to stay on the 555 driver series you may either switch to unstable or install nvidia-dkms via: sudo pacman -U https://mirror.easyname.at/manjaro/pool/overlay/nvidia-dkms-555.58.02-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst. Python 3.12 info

You will need to rebuild any AUR Python packages that install files to site-packages or link to libpython3.11.so.

Print a list of of packages that have files in /usr/lib/python3.11/ :

pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.11/

Rebuild them all at once:*

pamac build $(pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.11)

Linux 6.9 is EOL and has been removed from the repos.

Suggestion is to install latest LTS; i.e.,

System freeze on suspend

A feature in systemd 256 freezing a user session when suspending may freeze the system.

The issue is most prominent with Nvidia systems but reports exist that it may affect other systems as well.

System freezes for 60 seconds and then wakes back up or hangs after waking up

Since systemd v256, systemd freezes user.slice before sleeping. This process can fail due to kernel bugs, particularly when KVM is in use.[13][14]

Messages in the logs will contain Failed to freeze unit 'user.slice' before sleep. When such an issue occurs, trying to login (start another session) would fail with pam_systemd(process:session): Failed to create session: Job 9876 for unit 'session-6.scope' failed with 'frozen'.

To temporarily revert back to the old behavior, edit systemd-suspend.service, systemd-hibernate.service, systemd-hybrid-sleep.service, and systemd-suspend-then-hibernate.service with the following drop-in:

KDE Plasma hangs on Shutdown, Restart and Logout

With KDE Plasma 6.1, the session saving feature can make Plasma hang.
A workaround is to disable it in System settings > Session > Desktop Session, by choosing “Start with an empty session”.

KDE Session auto login can't be re-enabled for X11

Once session auto login for X11 gets disabled, it can’t be re-enabled in settings.
A workaround is to edit the /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf file and replace Session=Plasma (X11) by Session=plasma

pulseaudio-ctl requires pulseaudio and is not compatible with pipewire

If one is using PipeWire, one will need to remove pulseaudio-ctl if prompted during the update as it’s only compatible with pulseaudio

My update went ok but I have one annoyance. Suddenly my logon splash screen is up for 30 seconds rather than about 5. I was more than a little concerned that my logon may have frozen there. I did your basic stopwatch test first, but it’s also visible in journalctl.

I started with a custom splash screen but switched to Breeze, which did not help.

I didn’t have time to test and troubleshoot, but this happened to me as well. I was just starting to hold the Power button when I saw the desktop pop up.

I was installing new kernels from previous update in pamac-cli and noticed warning about EOL kernel

NOTE, 6.10.14 is the last maintenance release of the 6.10 kernel series.
This kernel is now marked ‘End Of Life’ (EOL).

It is recommend to switch to the newer linux611 series:
‘sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux611’

Do you want Testing Branch users to help test the new metapackages when kernel 6.10 is dropped?

No, cos we know that the meta-packages will work. They get updated when we really drop 6.10. Now we plan to update mhwd-kernel to allow uninstalls of 6.10 with meta packages present.

Kernel 6.6, 6.10, 6.11 w Plasma, Wayland, nVidia. Slow splash screen, after that desktop shows, but unresponsive for another half a minute. After that no mouse cursor is visible for the rest of the session. It is moving and you are able to click on GUI elements, but you have to do it blindly.

EDIT: reverting/updating kwin (6.2.1-1 → 6.2.1.1-0) and plasma-workspaces (6.2.1-1.2 → 6.2.1.1-0) (now on test branch repo) fixed all issues.
In the meantime, I nuked plasma .config, plasmoids and nothing helped.

On both 6.6 and 6.11 KDE Plasma, after logging in via SDDM kwin_wayland coredumps followed by other applications. After this I return to the login screen. Trying to login leads to the same issues. Switched back to updates as of Oct 15 and no issues.

If I set Splash Screen to None in System Settings the desktop appears as fast as before when logging in.
To me, it seems, that the splash screen isn’t properly notified anymore that it should terminate itself because the desktop has finished loading.

I hope that Plasma 6.2.2 will fix more issues people may still see in 6.2 series. That is one reason why we normally don’t rush Plasma releases these days. Other than that it is kinda good release.

with this latest plasma-desktop 6.2 update, the desktop icons lose position every time the screen locks then unlocks or play a game then return to the desktop (i am assuming every time it refreshes the desktop)

Same issue as @kqr

Recently switched to the edgelord branch and multi-monitor support went from iffy to buggy real fast and I don’t know if it is my vertical (portrait) monitor + horizontal one. When switching off the monitor or making adjustments in the relative position (which in itself is buggy) makes so that the usable region gets mangled or outright goes black but plasma UI still visible. Everything gets corrected with a good old reboot but I don’t know. If you want logs just tell me the command for I have terminal commands Alzheimer.
