Strips and streak on monitor

Hello,

My monitor started to give strips and streak when scrolling down a web page and especially when I change windows with Alt + Tab.

Booting from a USB does not do that.

Please, help.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and press the three dots below your post and press the :pencil2: to give us more information so we can see what’s really going on.
Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

:+1:

P.S. If you want to notify me that you did provide this information, please  this message and I’ll come back and have another look.
P.P.S. Please also read this:

because I can’t see the screenshot (or whatever it is) that you posted…

  1. In the future, when providing code/output, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text so that the output looks like this:

    instead of like this:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.`

(as that makes both our lives much easier)

  2. No need to do anything right now as I’m a moderator here on this site and have fixed it for you already. However, in the future I might not see your post so review my RAW edits by pushing the orange pencil in the upper right corner of the post I just fixed.

  3. Kernel 5.12 is EOL so please install both 5.4 and 5.10 LTS (Long Term Support) and see which one of the two troubles you least.

  4. If the above doesn’t help, what are the contents of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-mhwd.conf file, please?

  5. Unrelated to your problem, but please read this

I went as far back as kernel 4.14 and the problem disappeared.

The mhwd.conf file is empty.

Kernel 4.14 has support until Jan 2024.

Is that solution good enough for you?

Well that kernel is still being updated, so if you have no issues, you can keep using it.

You can also try kernel 5.13 to see if it goes away as well. You were using 5.12, which is EOL. 5.14 should be on Manjaro soon as well, as it just got officially released.

I had been using kernel 5.13 since its official release on Manjaro. I had no problems until a few days ago. I tried every kernel down except for 4.19 which I do not have installed and 4.14 solved my issue.

Nevertheless, I am curious to know, though little as I do, the reason for the trouble.

Thank you for the help!

It’s probably a regression bug. Keep both 4.14, 5.4 and 5.10 installed

At the next update when the kernels get updated try 5.10 again.

I have been using Cinnamon with rendering software. When I switched to Cinnamon default, there is no such problem.
