[Stable Update] 2023-06-04 - Kernels, Gnome 44.1, Plasma 5.27.5, Python 3.11, Toolchain, Firefox

Chromium 114 now goes by the Gtk theme. There are plenty of people also complaining in upstream bug reports as well.

There are no flags. enable-force-dark is not related.

For now, you can use a light Gtk theme and make sure gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme is set to 0 in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini.

Sometimes this happens, especially when you use Gnome. Also bigger updates it is better not to use the graphical environment and their package managers. pamac and pacman both work fine in a TTY

@philm thanks for recompiling the kernels

I have two computers running XFCE.
On both computers, thunderbird starts only after the second attempt.
(First click to start thunderbird does not start it, the second time start thunderbird).

Donā€™t know for chromium, but on ungoogled-chromium (113.0.5672.126, using chaotic aur build) you can switch between classic (light theme) and gtk theme (hits the system theme).

This update was the strangest one for meā€¦ Let me explain:

  1. Update and reboot
  2. Stuck on ā€œFailed to start Load Kernel Moduleā€ (I used 5.15 LTS)
  3. Somehow after 2-3 tries the only TTY-2 has been worked
  4. I found out how to install a new kernel and then reboot (update to 6.1 LTS)
  5. KDE Plasma totally lost its theme configurations and any commands in Konsole gave result like there wasnā€™t any arguments for anything (for example, pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.10/ command gave me only the list of commands like ā€œpacman list, install, updateā€¦ā€ and pamac GUI couldnā€™t do anything and even didnā€™t ask password to enter the settings)
  6. After resetting language to English and a few reboots later, everything has started to work normally as expected.
  7. I still cannot run kernel 5.15 (see p.2)

Soā€¦ What the :no_mouth: was thatā€¦ Idk, like I donā€™t know if I can fix the issue with 5.15 or should just wait for the further updates keep using 6.1

Edit /etc/systemd/resolved.conf

MulticastDNS=no

Is this Solution correct ?

A note for anyone who has searx-ng installed from source (not AUR or Manjaro repos). The Python update breaks it. After wasting a lot of time trying to work out how to get everything in order for it, I found that the best (and quickest) way to get it working again was to completely delete the searxng userā€™s home directory and reinstall it as per the step by step installation guide

[edit]: the Python update instructions linked at the top would probably have helped a bit in this, though I have a feeling searx-ng itself would still have needed a complete manual rebuild.

hamster-time-tracker does not work after python upgrade.

This is a known issue, fixed upstreamā€¦ workaround here:

My XFCE had the tortoise-paced firefox & telegram startups after this. But Philmā€™s solution worked.

This looks as if itā€™s been a busy day - thanks to the Devs for reacting quickly to these little issues.

Has the update been eliminated? It does not appear in my systemā€¦

So that it seems to be a problematic one, that could be decided, but I cannot find that in the thread

The update is only for paid subscribers. The free tier will have to wait. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: 1

1 Joking aside, your mirror(s) may be out of date. See Pacman-mirrors - Manjaro

Thatā€™s right. Iā€™ve tried to update mirrors, but they seem to be out-of-date even refreshing, donā€™t know why. But now itā€™s OK.

I noticed both my browsers (Librewolf/Firefox, the latter being a flatpak) and applications like Screenshot, Libreoffice and Gnome-System-Monitor being incredibly slow and unresponsive for me after the update, when they werenā€™t before, they eventually start and work but it takes a good while, like a full minute+ in some cases, so I have no idea whatā€™s going on there.

DE is Cinnamon 5.6.8

Once again ā€¦ please see the wiki post and attached reference to bug in xdg-desktop-portal

I ran this update and that seems to have disabled my broadcom-wl wifi driver. The output of my inxi -N is:

Device-2: Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n driver: N/A

I tried switching from Kernel 5.15 back to 5.10, that didnā€™t work. I also re-installed the linux510-headers but that also didnā€™t work.

I am using Timeshift to go back to a prior backup.
