Slow opening applications after update

Hi
This morning I updated the system after an update prompt and after that to open an app takes for ever. It used to be fast, now it takes around 30 seconds to open Firefox, Brave, telegram, Thunderbird.
However, terminal and chromium on the other hand opens fast.

I looked around in the forum and found suggestions to clear out .cache and reboot. That did not make any difference. Then I tried to create a new user, but the new user had the same issues.
Any suggestions?
