As a new forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements; in particular, the many ways to use the forum to your benefit.
To that end, some or all these links may be invaluable:
Keep in mind that while it might not be currently possible to login via a TTY, you can still boot with the Manjaro ISO and open a chroot environment to affect repairs or troubleshoot.
While it’s actually meant for another scenario, this tutorial gives instructions on how to enter a chroot environment;
I would recommend that you keep an eye on the Unstable Updates and Testing Updates topics, as any issues will likely appear and almost certainly be resolved in those branches before Plasma 6.2 is rolled out to Stable Branch.
And, of course, before updating your Stable branch installation of Manjaro, you should always read the related Stable Updates announcement, especially the “Known issues and solutions” section of the thread.
I didn’t immediately realise you were a new forum user.
Copy the output from that command into your next post – you should use the button that looks like </> which would convert the pasted text to a scrollable preformatted text box to make it generally more readable for others.
Before you do this, please read information previously provided which includes links to help you understand how to use any forum formatting required.
Please also edit your previous post with the same intention. As that text already exists, place three (3) backspace characters both before and after the command output.
I am a relative novice to posting here. I ran the command in the terminal and seem to understand that I should NOT copy and paste the output directly into a text message.
I now have narrowed down the suspect packages to these ten:
10 extra/plasma-disks 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
9 extra/plasma-firewall 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
8 extra/plasma-integration 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
7 extra/plasma-nm 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
6 extra/plasma-pa 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
5 extra/plasma-systemmonitor 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
4 extra/plasma-workspace 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
3 extra/plasma5support 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
2 extra/polkit-kde-agent 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
1 extra/powerdevil 6.1.5-1 → 6.2.2-1
to all you code sleuths, while I cannot pinpoint the faulty package YET – there is an actual bug that affects only some and it causes a black screen to display after the plasma desktop briefly appears — reporting that YOUR system is unaffected is helpful how?
And yet, you still do it, despite being given the necessary information needed to correct that.
You have not told us how you have narrowed down this list of what you call suspect packages…
What leads you to suspect these packages?
What are the results of any diagnosis you have performed?
All you have given us so far is a list of packages and the vague presumption that there must be a bug; yet you provide nothing that supports that.
Let me ask YOU… how is that helpful?
Where is this *actual bug documented?
While it is always possible that (as yet) undiscovered bugs may exist in software, until a bug is actually diagnosed and defined (and is clearly reproducable by others) I’m afraid it is not a bug.
This typically indicates that the issue you’re experiencing is specific to your system, and does not affect everyone using KDE Plasma 6.2.
And this is understandable, as Plasma 6.2 hasn’t reached the Stable branch yet – 6.2.2-1 is in Unstable, and 6.2.1-1 is in Testing.
Now, if you had taken the time to specify that you are using either of these branches, that would potentially have saved time from the onset.
I suggest you heed the advice already given by @scotty65:
You should always read these announcements before posting; it can often save much wasted time.
There already exist known issues (with solutions) that may well be related to your problem. Read through the respective Update Announcements and they should magically reveal themselves unto you.
But, don’t stop there; continue reading through those announcement threads, as important information may be gleaned throughout the general comments also.
Incidentally, it seems apparent that you are refusing to provide the requested information.
In depth system information will usually allow others a better insight to other factors that might be contributing to your problem.
A bug can be reproduced at will using a documented flow.
I provided some comparison to a system which do not exhibit the behaviour you describe.
I feel the need to emphasize that Manjaro does not fix upstream bugs - if a bug is present - and it can be reproduced - the correct approach is to log the bug with upstream’s bugtracker.
Having a black screen with Plasma 6.2 is a common and sometimes known issue. There are issues with that via SDDM and other parts. Some might be related to X11, others to the newer Qt 6.8 release or even drivers like from Nvidia. If you have multiple monitors, that can be an issue too. Here some issues on the matter:
As usual, if you have modified your Plasma experience you may want to try with a new user on your system, delete the cache or do the usual regular major Plasma migration routines.
