No sound in my installation

Hi,

There is no sound in my machine. Its been for sometime. Any help ?

This is the result of alsa-info.sh

alsa-project . org / db / ?f=49eecb25210d44f0d3a12e2fbb44e67b319892d8

Thanks

Hi @pp.shew

Your alsa report proves the opposite. What makes you think that there is no sound? Did you mute it?

Maybe a similar issue to this? I have here CX20632 you have CX20751.

@megavolt
When i play video files using vlc, there is no audio.

I followed that link and it didn’t work.

Sorry, you don’t report any errors, so I have to assume that it is a user configuration. Did you set the correct source?

there is no error. i cant hear anything. but with headphone i can.

Obviously, you can hear something. Don’t be lazy and search the forum. There are good tutorials at #contributions:tutorials

Maybe some basics:

Maybe start here:

inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --width
pactl list sources short

Play some audio and run:

pactl list sinks short

Without information, no one can even guess what could be wrong on your system.

@megavolt , I really appreciate your help. Seriously, there is no sound from my device whether it is Youtube or VLC. I am attaching the output of the commands.

inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --width

@pp.shew

As I see the driver is working:

Still, only pulseaudio is in use, but shouldn’t be a problem.

As you see, there is a sound device, and it plays sound as usual.

  • You said that the headphone work. Is it the same jack?
  • Maybe the jack is broken or the speakers?
  • Is the correct profile set? → pavucontrol

However, it seems to be rather a hardware issue.

Is the correct profile set?

from PulseAudio data, Profile is likely to be analog-stareo-output
to confirm Active Profile and check if Profiles/Ports are available:

pactl list cards

ALSA data in post#1 shows mixer control for headphone output is muted

Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
  Capabilities: pvolume pswitch
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Playback 0 - 74
  Mono:
  Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [-74.00dB] [off]
  Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [-74.00dB] [off]

Laptop headphone output would usually be muted if headphones are not plugged in and Auto-Mute is enabled, but control for Auto-Mute is disabled

Simple mixer control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
  Capabilities: enum
  Items: 'Disabled' 'Enabled'
  Item0: 'Disabled'

I suggest unmute Headphone output

amixer -c0 sset 'Headphone' 90% unmute

When audio playback is working to both speakers and headphone jack, enable Auto-Mute

amixer -c0 sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' Enabled

I also suggest:

  1. Install latest LTS kernel (other users with skylake and later generation Intel laptops reported audio issues with kernels v5.10 and v5.15 recently)
    sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux61

  2. Delete PulseAudio databases to remove old user settings
    rm ~/.config/pulse/pulse.cookie ~/.config/pulse/*.tdb

  3. Reboot system to load new kernel and allow PulseAudio to create new database files
