Kwin_x11 use 99% of cpu

Hey people,

somehow my kwin_x11 process use 99% of my cpu (also in idle).

A simple reinstall din’t solve the problem.
Already thought about any malware and did some simple intel like “sudo netstat -tulpen” for foreign connections, “ss” or" ps -aef --forest" and a scan with clamav (which isn’t the best in detection) but either i’m to stupid to detect it or it’s not malware.

If I kill kwin_x11 the cpu usage drop to normal

“> sudo journalctl /usr/bin/kwin_x11” reveals following:

Hi @buongiorno,

It could because of the (lack of ) GPU drivers you use.

But to confirm/deny/troubleshoot this, more information is needed. To that end, please see:

Hope you manage!

Tip:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead of like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

Please edit your post accordingly.To that end, please see:

Hi @Mirdarthos

As you can see I’m relatively new to this forum haha. Still learning, so thanks for your note.

You say, it could be a problem with graphics driver and now I thought about my CUDA installation without having a NVIDIA Device. I installed them once as Hashcat had errors some time ago. So I’ll uninstall them and come back with the result!

Hey @brahma , I just realizied, my linux kernel were downgraded somehow. I’ll upgrade them and come back!

Also I don’t know, if I use wayland, but it is installed. To which alterntive should I switch? What do you recommend?
I use the official KDE Plasma Enviroment from Manjaro. I know it is a bit bloated and when I fix my issue, I try to debloat it.
I

you are running an eol kernel the 4.14 so switch to another one - the 5.15LTS, and see if it helped…
and you are running x11 and not wayland so in this regard its ok

I just saw that! Damn, I can’t explain how that happenend. Now, after Kernel update it works just fine again. Thanks!

i forgot to add that you should remove the 4.14 kernel, since it is end of life…
