Using neo4j-desktop installed through AUR, I’m having some issues. No ability to create DBMS. No matter what I’ve tried so far, it always returns something to the effect of Can’t create DBMS: Error: Name isn’t activatable.
There is another topic regarding neo4j on here that I looked at, and while I do have a similar error (as well as a small host of others that seem Mostly Harmless), the error in that one states that url is assigned to ‘–no-sandbox’, where as for me, it is simply undefined. That one might be the actual issue, and in certain verbose logging formats, immediately before, I’ve seen an error relating to inability to resolve the dbus.
As well, there seems to be some sort of permission issue going on, as when I try to get info on the database through neo4j-admin database info, the database_lock is inaccessible, despite being in it’s own directory, and even when there are no instances of neo4j running to lock it.
After about 4 hours giving it a go, I’m resigning, and asking for help from the community. The other topic mentioned unpacking the appimage and taking the files to the correct place manually, but I’m far from confident with such. Any help would be appreciated. I’d post logs, but I’ve been nose deep in too many to know which would be useful. Thanks in advance.
Firstly, could you please add some punctuation to your post (i.e. line breaks to split it into paragraphs).
Secondly, please post system info as per the following:
Also, please note that the AUR is officially unsupported. It is also recommended that Manjaro users who wish to use the AUR should switch to the Unstable branch.
Nice wall of text.
From the description, neo4j-desktop is a “GUI for managing local and remote Neo4j Graph databases”.
The database itself seems to be neo4j-community - but it is not a dependency of neo4j-desktop
As you are new to on the forum - perhaps new to Arch based systems as well - please do remember that custom packages, such as those build from scripts hosted at Arch User Repository is unsupported.
Any and all such scripts are unsupported as stated on the AURweb and issues with those should be directed at the script maintainer

But yeah. My message was a total wall of text, wasn’t it. If you want any other logs related to any of the errors, let me know? I’m aware that AUR is unsupported. That’s why I’m asking the community for help. What is provided is appreciated but not expected.
Their bug reports have several issues similar to mine, which have sat untouched and still open for years. Since there appeared to be a solution found on here in the past relating to differences between manual installation and using AUR on manjaro, I figured asking the community here was the best shot.
It was just a thought - you won’t believe the kind of “errors” people make.
no one can read that output
do that command in terminal again
highlight all of the output - and copy/paste it here
either use </> to format it
or put three backticks (```) in front and at the end
it won’t be collapsible then - but at least readable
it will look just like what you saw in the terminal
(format it as collapsible is hidden behind the gear icon on the right → Hide Details)
Looking at the descriptions - neo4j is a client only - of course it need to connect somewhere.
If you need to run a local database - then you are supposed to know how to achieve this. Furthermores the management system does not require a local instance which makes you in charge of making such instance available.
There is two versions of neo4j db engines
community
enterprise
You should be able to pick based on your requirements.
I appreciate it. I have enterprise installed, and have since the beginning. And, apologies if I came off some sort of way. Quitting smoking. Postponed responding, to try to ensure responses were at my local minima of cranky, but rereading, seems I may have still had a bit of an attitude.
Mods beat me to it, but I definitely appreciate the tips for the future. I’m sure I’ll have to post logs here again sometime. And, I appreciate the thought. It’s a beautiful thing, humanity’s capacity to surprise you. I just wish they used it better. And, again, If I had an attitude, I apologize, quitting smoking, local minima for attitude is higher than I’d like.
