This is first time im using Manjaro Linux and i noticed some strange stuff after logout of the GUI.
This is a repeat login after logout of same user (me the only one on system)
The first time is no problem but after that the system has problems to let me login again in the GUI (KDE Plasma).
It gets stuck and the bar does not fill-up completely.
I have to switch to an VT and do CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot, which also takes some time due to a systemd unit waiting (Session 2 of user)
Is this hapening to anyone else and is there a fix?
PS:
I’m an advanced user of Linux, but a noob when it comes to Arch/Manjaro.

I don’t know what is going on.
I was waiting for someone to have a look at problem.
Try removing systemd
from passwd
and group
in /etc/nsswitch.conf
.
You must be kidding right?
If that was the case the problem would have occurred 100% every boot…
Those lines you quoted are for network interface management, and i have a static ethernet port set to be ignored by NetworkManager, NM only controls the Wifi which is not being connected to at moment by choice…
Also i am running BIND as DNS server on same machine, which is functioning properly…

I was giving you that advice based upon how much time those two services needed at boot time, and it is possible that something else is waiting for those services to finish starting before you can get to your login screen.
By consequence, there was no need for you to come back at me with an attitude, and especially not if you’re a newbie who doesn’t even properly understand how the different components in the system work together.
The problem happens after logout and login again, eg. not the initial login.

Please read my profile before you jump to conclusions… (Click my avatar here)
And yes i appreciate help, but not when it involves removing systemd settings…
You wouldn’t be removing systemd
settings. You would simply be reconfiguring /etc/nsswitch.conf
so that it doesn’t depend on systemd
anymore.
And why would that help in this case?
You want to decouple systemd from a system that is managed by systemd, not very logical or advisable…
SystemD is already setting the UTP connection to a static config, and my local (on same machine) DNS server is properly operating and starting from boot.
nsswitch.conf is only to select which name server will be used for DNS lookups, which in my setup is the local BIND9 in all cases…

PS:
The problem is not at boot time…it is after a logout from the GUI and trying to login back again.
No, it is not managed by systemd
. This here below is what I’m talking about…
passwd: files mymachines systemd
group: files mymachines systemd
shadow: files
It determines how logins on your system are handled. In the event of the snippet above ─ taken from my system ─ it validates logins against the local files on my machine as the first verification ─ i.e. /etc/passwd
, /etc/shadow
, /etc/group
and /etc/gshadow
─ and if the login was not found in the local files, then it will look inside any running containers as covered by the mymachines
entry, and if it cannot find the login credentials there either, then it will appeal unto systemd
for doing its magic via a centralized LDAP server.
In other words, the settings I’ve referred to are pertinent to login/logout. It has nothing to do with IP addresses, TCP or UTP packets, but most likely it is trying to resolve the FQDN (“fully qualified domain name”) of the machine that the expected LDAP server is installed on.
And there we have your mistake…
If the login would come to that point it would behave the same at boot time / first login, which is NOT the case…
I don’t have a LDAP running, and the login account is present in /etc/passwd
…
The advice I gave you was also the advice given by @philm as a solution for the same type of problem you have, as introduced in one of the updates of a while ago, and he’s only one of the main Manjaro developers.
But okay, you’re the newbie and I guess you know better than the people who put this distribution together, so I will now bow out of this exchange and leave the solving of this problem into your expert hands.

Now that you have mentioned that file and pointed me at a strange mymachines
entry in it…
Where is that mymachines
defined?
(I could as well remove that instead)

No need to be like that, because in that case those that put this distribution together would be the newbie’s…
I have Many, and i emphesize the capital M here, years of experience with many Linux distributions.
This problem is specific to Manjaro…
A solution that removes a problem caused by another piece of software by eliminating some other software is the newbee style of fixing which always bites back in the long run…
mymachines
─ see the manual ─ pertains to locally running containers. systemd
is the entry that will look for an LDAP server.
I’ve got 20+ years of experience in exclusively running GNU/Linux on my desktop workstations and on servers. And the problem wasn’t introduced by Manjaro, because Manjaro sources most of its packages from Arch.

Hmm looking at this They do have systemd
in those lines but no mymachines
I will remove the mymachines
and see if that solves it
And if you can count you will know that i have a multitude of that (See my profile)
That man page
probably needs updating ─ the most recent one dates back to 2017, and that includes the copy installed here on my system. Containerization wasn’t fully supported by the mainline kernel yet back then, and systemd
is not the init
system in all distributions.
So the mymachines
entry may indeed be specific to distributions with systemd
and how that interacts with containers.
I am older than you are, and I find it a little hard to believe you’d have a multitude of “20+ years” of experience with GNU/Linux when the Linux kernel itself is only 29 years old as of this year.

Yes, yes, I have.
