This is very nice statement about the freedom of choice.
You are just ignoring, that there is someone who made his choice and want to contine with a product which is respecting the principles of Linux and private data of an enduser!
If this will not be the case, I surely will choose another Linux distro!
The same thing they said with systemd, including proprietary drivers that many people like, Enterprise Distros, paid Distros like Zorin. Itās all too irrelevant.
Itās just realizing that Manjaro is not Google, and not crying so much for a couple of system information that are useful to further improve the system.
Do you want total privacy? Disconnecting the internet from your computer is a reality, not even VPNs, Proxies or whatever you can think of will give you that false sense of privacy.
And itās already been clarified many times about what they will do with the data and how transparent they are, do you think Manjaro is going to get into legal trouble by lying? Itās absurd. But if you want āpureā distros, you have many others but you wonāt have as much support, limited drivers, and even package software.
Opening your mind and heart is not that difficult.
Respect is a two-way street;
and thatās something many here often seem to disregard.
If I understand the general commentary against MDD in this and the MDD QA thread, which incidentally has now been reopened (with a Poll) for those wishing to share their concerns; the presumption seems to be that personal information will be included.
As far as I can see, thatās simply not true.
Even so, without any personally identifiable information in the equation, the main point is whether to opt-in or opt-out ā either way (as I crudely illustrated in MDD Opti-in vs Opt-out) the User has a choice whether to allow it, or not.
It seems (to me) that those with concerns mainly wish to be assured that this choice will be given in an obvious fashion, and not via some obscure command-line option; and this is a fair request.
I fail to see how so much complexity has evolved from this simple need for assurance; which, I understand, has already been given.
The first mdd thread was intended for gathering technical feedback, but it quickly devolved into a discussion about opt-in versus opt-out.
The second and currently still ongoing mdd thread is about whether it will be opt-in versus opt-out.
In a post-truth world itās the drama factor that counts. Weāve already had to reign in a rampant headless chicken yesterday, who in spite of being repeatedly pointed at the facts, just couldnāt stop setting the forum on fire with hyperbole and paranoia.
