After the update, my password for my user completely stopped working-- in the gui and terminal. No change was made, can’t update any packages via pacman because of this. What gives?
My DE is KDE Plasma 5.26.5, which I am running on the Framework laptop.

Please be more verbose and explain what you tried to do.
Are you able to login into your user account:
Via the GUI.
Via the console
If you are able todo the above, it is not an issue with your user accounts password…

Hi, I would love to be more verbose about my issue, but running this command as sudo isn’t feasible as it requires my password in order to run it as it uses sudo.
That being said, here’s the output if I run the command as my normal user:

Logging in works, but actions performed within the system that require the user password cannot be executed.
February 26, 2023, 10:58pm
pacman -Syyu and tried the updates tab within the KDE discover store. Neither work as they both require my user password.

Logging in works,
Because you are able to login using your password, i am changing the topic title…
Can you provide output of:
Plus to see what is going wrong you should open, in a separate terminal, the following command prior/before trying to perform your action that needs your password:
check whether your user account is a member of the wheel group:

How to boot from USB into live Manjaro (for repair):
Hi newbi question my desktop is XFCE my pc is 64bit 60gig hardrive. I did a recent up date and now manjaro won’t boot up. I get a message saying I need to have a kernel installed first. I’ve tried advanced option but even the fallback won’t boot. I did some research that it’s possible to recover my installed system by chroot using usb but not really sure what to do after I get the message below. In the terminal I typed “manjaro-chroot -a” below is the message I got.
“Mounting (ManjaroLinux) …
When you use
chroot then, you can alter the root-password of your installed system.

The OP has problems using his user password for administrative actions, it has nothing todo with the password on the root account.
(The root account should not have any password by default or be able tobe loged into…)
A house must have at least 2 doors. For the safety of the resident.
If it doesn’t, you may have to use the window to get out.

An intruder can’t sneak into an house without an open Window
There already is an

Thanks for the help-- as the machine I am using is my primary device, I had to give up and timeshift back to an earlier point in time, which solved my issue. It sucks that this happened, but it’s great that I have the option to revert. Thanks for all the help.

A work-around without the knowledge what caused it, and thus how to prevent it, will not do you any good.
It’s just a matter of time for it to repeat again if you don’t know the reason…
