Development | Q&A | OrangePi Neo-01

You need to look at the very first post in this thread it is the one that is continiously updated with the very latest information. Which also includes weekly development log entries.

Hardware projects may take longer. For now the following tasks are to be done on hardware level:

  • To confirm the heat dissipation components
  • Adjusted and optimized screen and other components are assembled into the whole machine for verification and confirmation
  • Plan to change the thin glass cover plate
  • Complete machine to be assembled, verification test
  • The structure of the partially modified mold is to be verified

We want to have a great product in the end, so some parts of the machine still need improvements and final testing.

Better to take your time. Considering the heating problems the ROG Ally had with an overheating SD card slot, these things have to be very well thought out…

interested to in installation Manjaro on my Steam Deck, I’m waiting for it to become publicly available for installation)

Considering that the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) has already started (2025-01-29) and lasts for 15 days (2025-02-13 which is a Thursday), I am guessing that there will be no updates until at least sometime after week number 8 (2025-02-17 to 2025-02-23) to do with the OrangePi Neo-01 hardware.

There are currently 100 units being assembled in the factory. Most of them will to selected YouTubers and news outlets for review. Additionally some units will be sent to Valve for review and licensing. The remaining may go to early adopters.

On the software side we should be ready. There might be still some last adjustments needed based on Valves feedback. This might delay the final release a little.

When all is done mass production of the OrangePi Neo may start. Initial batch should be around 5000 units.

Currently CE and FCC certificates are done. That might take time.

You should update that to Q2 2025.

Hi,

Is the future the devices able to run with Steam OS or a Steam OS like ?

Steam OS running on Steam Deck device like

The device is licensed to have Steam preinstalled and will be shipped with Manjaro as OS. There you will have the Big Picture experience via gamescope. For the Chinese market it will be HarmonyOS.

seems, there wil be another device with manjaro, which has bettter hardware:

If it’s just the same thing with a bit better specs, then that sucks. Because while I like the Zotac Gaming Zone as I currently have one, the trackpads on it are bad

Can you provide any links to reviews created by YouTubers, etc., who received these 100 devices for us to digest and help bide our time while we wait patiently for the Neo to be officially released?

Orangepi is currently producing a batch of devices for the Chinese mainland market. In parallel FCC and CE certification is still in progress. After that sample devices will be shipped to partners and Valve for final review before the device will be available for global market sales.

I still hope for a release in Q2 rather Q3.
