DELL 14 Plus: GNOME Camera display playback mess up

Hello,

I setup a Manjaro GNOME distro on a newly bought DELL 14 Plus. When launching the built-in camera app, the video looks incorrect like the screenshot below.

I started thinking it a video driver issue. Until recently I noticed it might be a software problem: If I click shutter button on the app, The camera can take pictures as expected. It issue only happens on video recording: the recorded clip messes up just like screenshot.

Did anyone see similar issues before? Or, It will be appreciated if I can get some instructions for diagnose or log collecting so I can provide more info.

:wave:

Hi there.

I would suggest you to try updating your system via tty using the command sudo pacman -Syu and at the end of the update reboot your system.

:vulcan_salute:

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command with appropriate parameters will achieve this (naturally, formatted according to forum guidelines) and will generally be more useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide output from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Thanks @RuKsu . I have tried upgrading several times. The issue has been lasted for ~3 months but issue still exists. I’m using stable ring, not unstable or testing, btw.

Thank you @soundofthunder . The output of inxi command looks like below.

Have you seen anything unusual?

Nothing obvious, apart from a lack of swap space which might potentially be contributing in some way.

I don’t personally use cameras; nor laptops generally; however, the reason for adding as much information as possible is to allow others to better identify possible culprits.

I notice you are using a lot of flatpak applications.

If any of these are related to your camera/playback then possibly installing those applications from the official Manjaro repositories (or even the AUR) might make some difference.

However, this is conjecture, at best.

It’s possible. Perhaps some logs could be helpful to those wishing to assist. Manjaro Log Helper might help with that; it allows easy selection of some logs to generate;

sudo pacman -S manjaro-log-helper
Manjaro Log Helper (illustration)

Additionally, this was mentioned earlier;
the System Maintenance (Wiki page) is useful generally.

Thanks folks! An full pacman -Syu by 9/23 suddenly make it work (Gnome is upgrade to 49). I’m still unclear what change causes it though.
