Cannot change any Gnome Extension settings

Hi there,

New Manjaro user here and a new Linux user here.

I have a quick question since I am encountering a weird bug and I don’t know exactly how this can be fixed.

When using the Gnome Extensions, when I click on the “Gear” icon to change the settings of a certain extension nothing pops-up, no setting menu, no nothing. Everything seems to be fixed after a reboot or after logging out. Then the “settings” portion works for around 1 hour and then it’s not working until I reboot, log out

Do you know how can I fix this?

Increase your chances of solving your issue:

No error messages are popping up when trying to access the options, nothing pops-up actually

What’s that extension? Or does the issue happen with any random extension? Or with all extensions at the same time?

Please also specify what extensions you do mean. (you can edit your post)

  • wordpress extensions ?
  • libbre-office extensions ?
  • extensions to your desktop ?

There may be 100 meanings for the word extension. Please write so that everyone reading does understand what you are talking about. Otherwise nobody will be able to help you :man_shrugging:
Also please edit the title of your thread to something meaningful.

When using the Gnome Extension app, when I click on the gear icon to change the settings for an extension nothing pops-up until I reboot, this applies to all of the extensions (Dash to Dock, Custom Hot Corners, etc)

Just edited that in my original post, I also went ahead and updated the title.

Reproduce the issue and see what’s being logged:

journalctl -f -o cat /usr/bin/gnome-shell
1 Like

So after trying to replicate the problem multiple times today, I found out that it randomly happens and I can fix it by killing the gnome-shell process using the System Monitor. This issue happened today with the gnome-control-center as well.

After killing that process and trying to reopen the Control Center everything worked fine. Seems like sometimes when I close the apps they remain open (I can see that using the System Monitor) and if they to, the only way to reset those was by killing the process.

Idk if that makes any sense what so ever and I do apologize for my poor english.
