I made the same question here:
First of all sorry for my bad english, I’m italian and a NEW user
I installed Manjaro KDE on my notebook Huawei Matebook D 14 and everything is ok but I have a strnge issue with sound. Soud quality is good but when I play a soud (music on my system or a web content with sound) there is a “bang or little carck sound” coming from my speaker even if I’m using a different sound source as my headphone. After this “bang/crack” sound works perfectly but if I start another sound source or there is a ne…
I mark it as solved but is not solved (still cracking/buzzing sound from speakers sometimes low level crack, sometimes high level crack from speakers) so install sof-firmware package: sudo pacman -S sof-firmware does not solve the issue. Change kernel to older LTS does not solve the issue too.
My setting is:

try with the 5.18rc kernel, install it from system settings/kernel, reboot and test with it
nothig changed, same issue even with new kernel 5.18
so try using either pulse or pipewire … install this package:
sudo pacman -S manjaro-pulse
it should remove pipewire, then reboot and test
if it doesnt work install pipewire:
sudo pacman -S manjaro-pipewire
it will give you dependency issues, so uninstall them first, then install it again, and select wireplumber, then reboot and test
if it still doesnt work, uninstall wireplumber and install pipewire media session, reboot and test
Not solved even if now the issue seems less prominent (crack sound is low now but still presented)
But al least now sound quality seems better with pipewire (installed wireplumber too). Tried with media-session before install wireplumber but same issue.
Pipewire is active i think

please try the following and report if crackling disappeares. if so, i’ll post how to do this setting permanent.
echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save
echo N | sudo tee /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save_controller
Untill I reboot seems that those 2 paramateres are working (even if I doesn’t have intel hardware on my system), if you can tell me how made permanent I will test better. Thanks
echo “options snd-hda-intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N” | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/hda.conf
and reboot.
hope that solved your issue
P.S.: it doesn’t matter, your hardware is intel-compatible and the used driver is the intel_snd-driver.
Not solved sadly, I hope I made it permanent ( I copy your string on terminal and reboot) but after some testing nothing changed.

Hi there, it seems that I have the same issue, where I previously also had the buzzing sound issue solved here , but it suddenly appeared again. I used the dual boot, and I found this after booting to windows (but not sure if it is relevant). Also, I could not find /sys/module/snd_hda_intel
, the only options related to snd_hda
would be
snd_hda_codec/ snd_hda_codec_hdmi/ snd_hda_core/
snd_hda_codec_generic/ snd_hda_codec_realtek/ snd_hda_ext_core/
This is also not solved for me, and there is only one line in /etc/modprobe.d/hda.conf
after this command.
echo “options snd-hda-intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N” | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/hda.conf
I used xfce though.

just a follow-up. I booted to the windows system again, and instead of “restart”, I shut it down first and then booted to Manjaro. The first boot leads me to lose WiFi connection, but when I did a reboot, everything works fine now. no buzzing sound anymore. Does it seem because of the dual boot? really wired.
Me too dual boot but I think is not dual boot the problem.
On Arch Wiki i found that
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture/Troubleshooting#Pops_when_starting_and_stopping_playback
But I have not a file called modprobe.conf , I have only HDA.conf so I don’t know if create this modbrobe.conf is a good idea
thats the same thing you alredy have from @olli recommendation, but you have hda.conf instead modprobe.conf, but the parameters are the same…
whats the output from:
systemctl --user status pipewire
dsystemctl --user status pipewire ✔

nothing there… you could try running this command, after you created the file in etc/modprobe:
sudo mkinitcpio -P
then reboot and test
sorry I don’t understand: I have to create a file (and what file) before the command? Or get the command and than reboot and the file is created by the command?
no you already created the file with @olli command above - the file hda.conf … but i think you have to recreate initframs (not 100% sure) after you create something in the etc/modprobe folder… and you do this with this commnad:
sudo mkinitcpio -P
then reboot and test
buzz sound from speaker is here when booting and when desktop is loading, and I think is normal because manjaro does not have time to load the sound setting at boot. But after that I have not buzzing sound on firefox or VLC playing somethig. So seems buzz sound now is only at startup. I test more to see if does not appear anymore during activity. Thanks
After testing the issue is not solved, but at least the buzz sound is low not disturbing and less preminent than before.
I’m guessing you mean from the laptop speakers and not external Speakers, Have you tested with ear phones and does it do the same thing, you could try editing file (with super user):
/etc/pipewire/pipewire.conf
and un-hash these lines:
default.clock.allowed-rates = [ ****** ]
default.clock.min-quantum = **
default.clock.max-quantum = ****
And as I’m not to sure about the specs of your onboard sound card try these settings first:
default.clock.allowed-rates = [ 48000 44100 ]
default.clock.min-quantum = 32
default.clock.max-quantum = 8192
If you card does upto 96k then you can try:
default.clock.allowed-rates = [ 96000 88200 48000 44100 ]
Save and reboot, not saying this will work but worth a try.
Also make sure these (user) services are running:
pipewire
pipewire-media-session or wireplumber (depends on which one your using here)
pipewire-pulse
pipewire.socket
pipewire-pulse.socket
