After this update my system fails to shutdown. After I press Power off from the menu any input (mouse or keyboard) is locked, Capslock is blinking and the machine stays on desktop forever. Can shut it down only by holding the power button.
I’m using Gnome.
Any tips on how to debug this are much appreciated!

Everything crashes nicely with a bang…gnome shell, and the video, and the kernel…but why, i am afraid i have no idea, someone more experienced have to tell.

This equals kernel panic - this could have a lot of reasons… and nearly impossible to deduce in a forum comment.
Kernel Oops at least is to see in the logs. I somehow doubt the only reason is the update, without anything else broken, it is just too big of a problem to occur just from an update. Most probably something was already broken, but it worked-sort-of-almost and you did not notice and the update was the last straw…
Assuming the system was in pristine state maintainance-wise (which we do not know), i would first look at the video driver (there are guides for some kernel parameters for amd) and some hardware failiure, memtest, failing hdd/ssd, smartctl, etc.
I have exactly the same problem on plasma since stable update 2024-03-06. For me it only occurs if I use kernel 6.6. Kernel 6.1 still runs without problems.

I might agree that something was broken before the update. After all, it went smoothly for the majority.
As for maintaining the system: I try to regularly clean the system following the “System maintenance” guide on Arch website. Although I have to admit, I haven’t checked kernel or system logs for a while.
The video driver is something that might be causing my problems I think. I’ve been using Unreal Engine 5.3 a lot lately (prebuilt app from the Epic website). That’s the only thing in my day-to-day usage that changed in the last couple months.
To continue digging further into the video driver, what should I do?
This kernel failure does not happen on every Shut down, but I haven’t figured out any pattern yet.

Yeah, this laptop has hybrid graphics - the main Nvidia card and integrated Radeon graphics. I believe I set it up to use Nvidia card when I installed Manjaro years ago. So I wonder why those commands above don’t mention it (should they at all?).
Well, there’s your problem. The gdm-plymouth packages have been obsolete and removed from the repos for a long time as GDM includes Plymouth support. Install gdm and it will prompt to remove the old packages:
sudo pacman -Syu gdm

But you also dont seem to have any related profile installed/active.

I have installed gdm package, which effectively removed gdm-plymouth. I also removed video-linux from mhwd seeing that it’s heavily outdated and seems unnecessary, since I have nvidia 550 driver installed manually.
Most shutdowns were fine after that. But yesterday it hanged again, this time on a black screen though.

The version date you see in the MHWD output is the date the profile was last modified, not a driver version. You should never remove video-linux.
What do you mean by you installed the NVIDIA driver manually?
I mean following this instruction on Arch wiki. Downloading the driver from Nvidia website and running its setup.
So, mhwd manages “profiles” and not drivers? This manjaro article is rather vague about the process, never mentioning what a profile is. The output of mhwd is not very helpful either. For video-linux, “2018.05.04” is under the column “VERSION”. Seeing this one would think “some outdated stuff, better keep away from it”.

“profiles” are the “names” of the groupings in mhwd.
They correspond to actual packages and some configurations.
A bit like a metapackage.
installing video-nvidia for example would install the latest nvidia packages, etc.
My bad, my bad, sorry. Never planned to give anyone a heart attack. I knew I used that article, but my memory failed me 
I must have used pacman command directly to install linux66-nvidia package. It has a status “Explicitly installed”.
Aha, so if I install video-nvidia through mhwd, I will get the corresponding packages in pacman. And that’s where I can check which ones are actually installed. And with system upgrades they would be updated as well. That clarifies things. Thank you.
