WiFi not working on XFCE Manjaro

Hello there. Just installed Manjaro XFCE 2 days ago and saw WiFi option not being there . I have been scrambling the internet for help. Nothing worked till now. I am sorry , I am completely new to Linux so please don’t expect me to know anything.

There is no option of wireless connection in network . Saw in Hardware Configurations and found out the network controller for WiFi I have is Wireless 8265 / 8275 (Intel Corporation)

So I went to find the driver on the Intel website and downloaded it. Went into /lib/firmware and tried to paste there , but it was already present there. The driver is not loading , rebooted the laptop and still not working. Need help.

Please read:

Hi @Kigorax , welcome to the formum.

I suggest you to search first on the forum with the words Wireless 8265 / 8275, there probably be the solution to your problem here.

Could you post the output of the following terminal command: inxi -Fazy on this post? (following the good practices that @jrichard326 suggested you)
Please, also put the output of the terminal commands:
rfkill list all

sudo dmesg | grep -i iwlwifi?

nmcli

on the same answer.

Hope this help, regards

Didn’t knew about it , thanks for helping . Made edits in post about the missing things .

@Kigorax,
I had a similar experience with a USB Wii adapter which was working perfectly till it wasn’t.
The problem for me was the fact that the Linux-headers for my kernel were not installed.
Maybe you should check if your Linux-headers are installed for your kernel, so the drver could be compiled and installed for you when you install a new kernel.

Hello @Kigorax

This error says:

$ LANG=C errno 110
ETIMEDOUT 110 Connection timed out

Maybe it could be possible that this chipset does not support hardware encryption and several other options which are included at the intel newest driver. Did you try to connect to an unencrypted wifi ssid?

Try this:

sudo systemctl stop NetworkManager
sudo rmmod -v iwlwifi
sudo modprobe -v iwlwifi swcrypto=1 11n_disable=1 disable_11ac=1 disable_11ax=1
sudo systemctl start NetworkManager

Open:

nmtui

and try to connect there.

Hello @Spike1 ,
I checked how to install and check the Linux-headers for my kernel .
Ran the command

sudo pacman -Q | grep headers

Output of this command

linux-api-headers 5.10.13-1
linux54-headers 5.4.105-1
linux59-headers 5.9.16-1

Just realised that the kernel version I am running is 5.9.16-1-MANJARO on checking with

sudo uname -r

And the api headers shown are of kernel version 5.10.13 , could this be the culprit ?

I was intending on installing the the LTS version of Linux kernel (I saw it in some video idk) , hence the headers of kernel 5.4 are present (The WiFi was not working even prior to this installation , so I don’t think this is the reason)

Hello @megavolt ,
I ran the commands you gave order-wise in the terminal , and on starting Network Manager again , WiFi was still not available . There was no output given by the 2nd command , I don’t know if it should .

I am not sure what to do after running the following command in terminal

nmtui

There is no option of wireless internet in ‘Activate a Connection’ , only wired connection are available .

I installed Manjaro via Legacy mode (BIOS) , I saw a youtube comment (Yea , I know its not helpful) saying that he had the same problem of WiFi not working on stalling Manjaro on SSD via BIOS . Could there be a problem here ?

Another thing is while installing Manjaro , out of 9 processes , 4 processes were shown as [FAILED] , one of them was Network Manager , I think this information could be relevant .

Weird thing is that no driver displayed, but the available modules… it should look like this:

Device-1: Realtek RTL8723BE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter
  vendor: Lenovo Z50-75 driver: rtl8723be v: kernel port: 2000 bus-ID: 02:00.0
  chip-ID: 10ec:b723 class-ID: 0280

Could you type:

sudo lspci -v

and copy paste at least the network part?

I see this:

Bildschirmfoto_2021-04-01_08-41-03

ok to track down the whole thing please do this:

  1. open 3 terminals
  2. first terminal: journalctl -f --unit=NetworkManager
  3. second terminal: journalctl -f --dmesg
  4. third terminal:
sudo rmmod iwlwifi && sleep 5 && sudo modprobe iwlwifi

Then please post the output of the first and second terminal.

Here , I believe this is the network part of the output I got .

Ran the third command in terminal , lagged the window for 10 seconds and then no output .
Also , am I supposed to give the output of the commands again after I ran the third command ?

@Kigorax Sorry for the delay.

Probably a problem with the pan1 bridge?

@megavolt WAIT , I switched on the laptop today and the WiFi is working !

I ran the nmtui command on the terminal to see if I could figure out if there was a problem with pan1 bridge . Suddenly I saw there was WiFi option there !! (pan1 bridge is working btw)WIFI

I think this has helped to resolve the problem (I am not really sure what exactly this did , but prior to running these commands , no matter how many times I rebooted , the WiFi didn’t work)

I didn’t reboot the laptop after doing that , maybe that’s why I didn’t see the WiFi working after running those commands .

I really thank you @megavolt for helping with this problem! Now I can rest a little after 3 days…
