Why are Steam Games quitting after launching?

OK I was having Racing Thoughts and one known method for getting this under control is simply doing something that is Mentally Distracting. In other words you can simply do anything that keeps you busy doing.

One way is play a game. A simply one will do. But not anyway that become anoiring.

Getting to the Topic on hand. One Game I just restarted playing is Salt and Sanctuary. I haven’t play this in a Long While and to my surprised it stops after launching on Steam.

I can play it by going to where the game is location and execute by Right Click on the command. How do I get Errors Code using Steam to play this game?

I forgot to mention that I did Steam Steam with this command:

STEAM_RUNTIME=1 steam

Didn’t Work.

Looks like you have hybrid graphics, are you launching the games with the prime-run command? If you launch steam from terminal you should be able to see the logs but personally I prefer to launch steam games through lutris. You’ll get real time logs and lots of improvement options using lutris

I’m using the GTX 760 dGPU sue to my GTX 970 stop playing most of the Games I have. Basically anything that needed to have a dGPU. Intel Graphics are not all that great for PC Gaming…

Oh sorry I reread your post. I’m not using a laptop.

Have you tried running it via cli and read the output?
Generally the syntax for that is
steam steam://rungameid/{YourGameID}
And the Game ID for Salt and Sanctuary would be 283640.

Hope it helps.

Thank You for the command to use run the Game under Steam using a Terminal to get the error.

I didn’t know this was possible. I often use the Binary command to start the said Games in a Term. Quite often Games will run outside of Steam using a CLI.

First of all, I completely understand your ADD / ADHD preface. :wink:

What does that mean? If it’s a Steam game, you launch it from Steam. If you pirated it, you’ll receive no support here.

I used Thunar(File Manger) to where said Game is Installed and Right Click on the correct Binary to execute it by the Right Click Menu.

I don’t remember how to do with this with Term with a Third Party Application/Game normally Installed or Ran under something such as Steam.

Loki Linux Games were installed from CD-ROM using an GUI by theirs. using a command from the CD-ROM. Another App provide updates and executed the Games.

Anyone who brought Linux Games that were ported and sold on their Website will know what I am talking about.

But speaking of Steam I don’t use the the Term very often for this.

BTW I no longer Pirate anything anymore. Especially Software.

Some games on steam don’t include the steam copyprotection and as such can also be started without any steam-runtime.

What does that have to do with Steam then?

It doesn’t I only mention that I forgotten how execute a Binary to start sideloaded Applications.

cd /path/to/game/
chmod +x game-executable # may not be necessary
./game-executable

Does the game run or not? If not post the terminal output using Preformatted text.

Your first post says you have the game installed via Steam, then you contradict that by saying you installed via CD-ROM. Which is it?

I ran this command provided by another User in this Topic:

steam steam://rungameid/{283640}

This is what I got

I can’t tell if it is Updating Pins or what.

Please use Preformatted text, not Quote for terminal output. I edited your post.

What for? In theory, it shouldn’t make a difference right now because the stable client update just rolled out with no new betas.

Unfortunately, the output tells us nothing.

Thanks I’ll use the Preformatted text from now on. This is the first I used that command using a Term.

So I don’t what to expect. I’ll later and go backto the Stable Client anyway and do this again.

Did you enable steamplay from the steam client? Also (I think this was asked before but I didn’t see an answer) is there a particular reason you’re trying to run the game from terminal versus the client or is it just because you personally perfer to? (which I get since the client can feel like a resource hog espcially if you have pre-cacheing enabled)

Yeah there’s no big reason to not use the stable version of the client as it use the bleeding edge proton versions.

Yes I have SteamPlay enabled. Do I need to disable this then? I don’t recall seeing this asked.

Thanks it is something I can try. I can’t where I can Opt Out the Steam Beta Program. I should know where it is.

Salt and Sanctuary is a native Linux game. I know this thread has been somewhat confusing.

Well it was working fine when I was playing it before. So maybe the game needs to be updated by the Developers?

Oh ok. In that case OP may have to force steam to use native libararies. (I’ve had to do it before for CSGO and such it was weird and annoying) @whm1974 in the client right click on the game and go to properties -> compatibility -> check the force compatiability tool and pick steam linux runtime. Also no don’t disable steamplay if you plan to play windows games.
