when it is proven to be stable enough

I think KDE Plasma 6.5 will be released once the testing phase is complete. After all, Manjaro is a rolling release.

Was 6.4 released to stable yet ?!?

We might answer that more easily once the flux capacitor controller has been successfully integrated with the kernel – or, when the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter aligns with Mars.

Or, there is always the option to switch to Unstable branch:

Which seems to be the better option than waiting given 6.4 didn’t reach the stable branch, although it was generally better than 6.3 and 6.5.0 runs again better than 6.4.5. (I stopped using activities though, since that crashed - not often and i don’t think it’s bound to specific versions but when it occurred the whole setup was screwed - so some more virtual desktops do nicely.)

It’ll be ready when it’s ready.

No, Stable is still on 6.3.6 right now.

Exactly. If I had a Euro for every time someone asks that same question…

Is there some place to check the progress or what’s preventing the update to 6.4?

Best places I can think of is either:

…or switching to the unstable branch.

Note that doing that has its own risks.

There is no “progress” to check anywhere. Someone decided that they won’t push this or that version to stable and that’s it.

I was thinking more of something like https://gitlab.manjaro.org/release-plan/kde

As for switching branch, I don’t want to end up with Plasma 6.5.1 or something.
I think it’s fine to only update Plasma once enough bugfixes have been released. Though now that the last bugfix has been released, I do wonder what’s blocking it.

The best sources of information in that regard are the Announcements > Unstable Updates and Announcements > Testing Updates threads.

Lol, because why exactly? You do realize that the rest of us on rolling distros (which is order(s) of magnitude more than Manjaro users) were happily on 6.4 for half a year now and are happily on 6.5.0 for a week now?

Thanks, the only thing I could find there is this:

To avoid the regression bugs from new Plasma releases.

You have to read the whole thread. That should a light on any difficulties with Plasma.

That’s good, since KDE has not yet released Plasma 6.5.1.

I don’t want to eventually end up with Plasma 6.5.1 or something.

You might be able to avoid this by switching branches - hopefully you can wait for a time that Unstable moves on from 6.5.1 and jump on that boat, until Stable offers 6.5.2 - at which time you could switch back.

Curiousity demands I ask - what is wrong with 6.5.1? My crystal ball got smashed I’m afraid…
