When trying to use clipboard: "Xfce Clipboard Manager is already running"

Error a:

Xcfe Clipboard Manager is already running
Could not start the Clipboard Manager Daemon because it is already running

he removed the clipman plugin to make it work but in my /etc/skel/.config/autostart/ i only have the plugin

something changed and now it doesnt show the error A on startup, instead it shows error A when I am trying to open clipboard manager. I press the first time and nothing shows up and nothing happens, the second time I press it it shows error A. Still a clipboard manager issue as it isnt showing.

Please note that I’m on KDE, so I’m using generic system knowledge to help you and cannot test things before I tell you to do them…

This looks suspicious to me:

  • Both in ~/.config/autostart/ and in /etc/xdg/autostart you are starting the
    xfce4-clipman-plugin-autostart.desktop

So that could be why you’re seeing Check if they’re identical and if yes, remove the one in ~/.config/autostart/ because that’s your user’s one and the other one is the system one.

Some other observations on your system:

Please read this:

Especially the Linux has multiple kernels and decide for yourself if you want to stay on a Stable development kernel or if you want to go to a super-stable LTS kernel.

Please read this

uh oh, now the first time I click Clipboard Manager to run it it gives the Error A (first post), not when I startup, but when I try and run it.

You need an XFCE expert. @megavolt aren’t you on XFCE???

Well I am not really an XFCE expert, but if an error like this occur:

Then it is 100% run already by any trigger. Since I am not running XFCE anymore (I use DWM now), I cant test it, but check if it is also triggered by the Settings. I know it sounds to be weird, but it seems that the xfce autostart settings start clipman and also the custom autostart desktop file and that referred to this error.

The response from ls /etc/xdg/autostart in post#1 is showing 2 items listed for xfce4-clipman-plugin-autostart.desktop
2nd from bottom in left column and 5th from top in right column

Please post response to

ls -l /etc/xdg/autostart | grep clipman

I suggest you go to to Session and Startup settings Application Autostart tab – xfce4-session-settings
Check startup items for Clipboard Manager or clipman
If there is only one item shown, disable it, reboot system and check if Clipboard Manager is not running

Better :eyes: than mine: I missed that!

It was more a combination of strong :eyeglasses: and a good :coffee:

But also needed a suspension of the logic to notice 2 identical names in the same Linux folder that should not be possible :astonished:

is one maybe a symlink?

What @nikgnomic is trying to say is: Instead of an

Could you provide an:

ls -al /etc/xdg/autostart

as a response here? (keep the one in the existing post so we can compare)

:face_with_monocle:

sorry for late response

I disabled the one Clipboard Manager in the Application Autostart tab and restarted. Like normal, it didnt error on startup (hasn’t errored on startup for a while) but, when I click Clipboard manager nothing happens, and on the second time I click it it gives Error A (the main already running error)

That’s actually normal: what are you actually trying to accomplish with starting the clipboard manager twice???

it doesnt start the first time…i press it and nothing happens

Please take a step back:

What are you trying to accomplish here? Don’t use technical terms like Clipboard Manager or clipboard but instead use:

  • I’m trying to have a history of different copy-pastes
  • I’m trying to copy-paste text, but it doesn’t work
  • I’m trying to :male_detective: on my grandmother through clipboard history

:innocent:

Please post response to this command to find out more about the 2 similar startup items

ls -la /etc/xdg/autostart | grep clipman

im trying to view my clipboard history - in windows it was nice and easy to just type ctrl + v to see all my clipboard history and recopy the copied items - i want to be able to recopy the copied items again without having to recopy… if that makes sense :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

here is the ouput:

~ ls -la /etc/xdg/autostart | grep clipman
drwxrwxrwt 8 root root 4096 Sep 12 10:31 xfce4-clipman-plugin-autostart.desktop
~

And then there was one… no symlink :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Please post response to this to double-check there is no duplication of launchers

ls /etc/xdg/autostart | grep clipman
xfce4-clipman-plugin-autostart.desktop

thats the full output
