Hi everyone, this is Sambhav. I’m currently studying Computer Science. On January 1st, I installed Manjaro and replaced Linux Mint, and I enjoy exploring different Linux distributions. I am proficient in programming languages such as Java, Go, and C++, as well as the Spring Boot framework. Looking forward to engaging conversations and insights.

Hello everyone

My name is Uwe and my location is somehwere in the middle of Germany.
I am working as a senior systems engineer in IT Management of a large company, looking for my retirement in 2026.

I would describe myself as an ā€œadvanced averageā€ Linux user, at least a ā€œterminal sessionā€ is not unkown to me . I moved our entire home network devices to Linux (as long as available) several years ago because me and my wife were tired about that Windows stuff.

Our main distribution is Manjaro (after several years of distro hopping), only for most of the virtual devices in my Proxmox server I am using mainly Debian.

My name is Bhaskar. I live in Malvern, Pennsylvania, USA and work for YottaDB. I switched to Manjaro from EndeavourOS. I switched to Linux when I kicked the Windows habit in 1999, and have used at least a dozen different distros, including one circa 2000 that booted and ran off a single floppy. I became a UNIX user in 1981, and have been a software person since 1970.

Hello Everyone!
My name is Scrells living in china~!
I like computer science, even though I am a layman and studied literature at university.
When I was young, I loved flashing and rooting my Android phones.
A few years ago, I taught myself Java and JS. Then I learned SpringBoot, Vue and MySQL.It feels really good to me to be able to write a website that is accessible.
Recently, I installed Linux on my pc Because I tried SteamOS on SteamDeck before.I thought linux is very efficient and streamlined compared with Microsoft Windows.
Among many Linux distributions,i chose Manjaro with KDE.I like the atmosphere of community members helping each other.
I hope to learn linux knowledge in community.
ā€œčƷ多关ē…§ļ¼ā€means:ā€œI would appreciate it if you could help me when I need help.ā€
Thank you!

hello.

ttocs here. im new to manjaro after many distrohops over the last couple of years.

im happy to be part of this amazing distro after facing bog downs from windows 11.

im currently using a GMKtec G5 nuc box with the intel n97 cpu and uhd 730 igpu. manjaro xfce has brought new life into this low end machine as its used a travel media/gaming box with its 10 inch portable monitor.

i can do everything on manjaro that i did with the bloated windows 11 with lesser idle temps/fan noise and most of all lower ram usage.

all in all im glad to be here.

Hello Manjaro Community,

I’m Lal T V, an intermediate Linux enthusiast from kerala, India ,who recently returned to the Linux world after retiring. My journey with Linux began over 12 years ago, and I’ve been amazed by how far it has come. After testing over 20 distros in the last three months, I chose Manjaro KDE as my daily driver, and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve customized it to my liking, and everything works flawlessly, including my favorite widgets like ChatAI. I’m here to connect with fellow users, share experiences, and learn from this amazing community. Thank you for welcoming me!

Best regards,
Lal T V

Hi all!

I’m Eduard and I’m a beginner on Linux. Before I went into it, I watched a lot of video’s about and decided to install Manjaro. It’s a great OS at the first look, you’ve done great job!
It is so that I decided to use my Manjaro for work and my new ā€œlittle hobbyā€. I would like to start learning Python. Any recommendations where to get a something like Microsoft Visual Studio but for Manjaro?

P.S. It would be great if you PM me with your answers.

Best regards

Hello to the entire community,
My name is Gregorio and I’m from Sicily. I’m not a programmer, but I’m a technology and freedom enthusiast, and I’ve been using Linux since 2000!

The first distro I tried to install was Gentoo. I know, it’s crazy to start with that one, and it wasn’t easy at all, but incredibly, the distro would boot (although the DE wouldn’t start), and I’ll never forget the joy I felt. I was 20 years old at the time…

Why did I choose Gentoo? Well, back then, it had an incredibly well-made and detailed wiki, the only one at the time that guided you step by step, so it was almost a forced choice. After that, I moved to Red Hat and its 5 installation CDs… I still remember the hours spent selecting all the packages and resolving conflicts… it makes me laugh to think about it. Today, it’s a whole different world… everything is incredibly simple.

I like to understand how things work, which is why in recent years I’ve been using Arch-based distros… and Manjaro is one of the best in my opinion!

Finally, I introduce myself

I registered on this forum since February 2019 (the old-old forum), and my journey with Linux operating systems, started in late ā€˜90s; In 1998-1999, for the first time, already totally tired of Windows, I was lookin’ for a replacement, and firstly I tried Mandrake Linux, based on KDE.
I remember it like a strange/alien OS! I attempted various time to use it (on live cd, never installed), then I renounced to use it, and I made a very wrong choise: I bought the Compact Disk with license, of Windows Millennium Edition! The worst OS I ever tried, was also very pricy (at the time there were no the Euro).
Long story short: after that I installed a magnificient OS: Beos! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BeOS thanks to BeOS i also started to learn how to use the terminal. Was a very good OS, but a little buggy here and there.
Then after some years, I tried Haiku OS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiku_(operating_system) nice, but immature, with the lacks of various things like fully hardware support: Haiku OS has started in February 15, 2002 and is still in beta state.

Then (I don’t remeber when) I switched to Windows 7, which worked almost well. But in last times (2018/2019) I’ve found it very limited and buggy: the sleep (suspension to ram) was unreliable, and furthermore didn’t supported newer technologies (eg: unable to properly display emojis), then on February 2019, I made the definitive jump to Linux: I have been distro hopper for some time, and I focused on Manjaro Linux, since I wanted a rolling release OS. On the USB stick I tried various flavours, and there were two candidates: KDE and Xfce: this one was, for me, the best Desktop Environment.

Since I use Manjaro I studied Linux a lot: I tweaked a lot the system under the hood: memory and kernel management
(also in /etc/sysctl.d/), niceness/priority levels of running processes, different IRQ managements, CPU scheduler, disks schedulers (eg I deeply tweaked the mq-deadline I/O scheduler, especially for the SSDs); I added a lot of kernel parameters to GRUB. Currently I am experiencing a very good performance of the system: is snappy, fast, can handle very well the multi tasking (eg: i can compile programs without slowdowns of the rest, eg: I can play music and browsing the web without hiccups);
I am to the point when I can deliberately saturate almost all of my ram (big images and big GIMP projects) and the OOM killer never trigged, and the system remains stable as a rock (however I have ZRAM).

I made a lot of bash scripts and Udev rules to automate various tasks; I also tweaked a lot Firefox, which is working amazingly and higly smoothly (a lot of changes in about:config and in styles with the extension stylus, to optimize Dark Reader). There is also Tamper monkey with usefuls scipts for privacy and performance. Obviously I also have uBlock origin, but not only: on Manjaro I also installed and set dnscrypt-proxy, to have different DNS servers and a lot of blocklists.
I also study SystemD: I made a lot of services and timers: in my humble opinion is far better than cronie.

My currente hardware:
CPU: Intel Core i5-3210M @ 4x 3.1GHz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000
RAM 16 GB DDR3
SSD1: Samsung 870 EVO
SSD2: (yes: my laptop have the ability to replace the CD/DVD with another disk) Crucial MX500

Obviously I also tweaked and personalized the look of every element of Xfce, which uses CSS.

Long live Linux and Manjaro!

code is a Free & Open Source Software alternative to Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code, and it’s available from the Manjaro repositories. Alternatively, there is also vscodium — or vscodium-bin if you want the precompiled version — from the AUR.

I am sorry, but doing so would benefit no one other than you, and that goes against the spirit of the Manjaro community. Therefore we don’t engage in one-on-one assistance here.

If you have any questions regarding how to install those packages, or you are experiencing problems with their use, then please post a thread with your question(s) under the pertinent forum category…

Hello everyone,

I am mgurei, I am a biomedical engineer with a great interest in computer science and programming.
I have been using Linux for 10 years and some, but I have to say me understanding is far more shallow than what I wish it to be, so I come here to ask the question to which is harder to find answers to.
I did a lot of distro hopping. settling on Arch and later Manjaro in the last couple years. Currently running Sway. On my machine I program and play games.

Cheers!

Hello there, I have been a member for a while but haven’t posted anything yet. I use manjaro on two laptops and as a VM on a work Windows PC. It is still Arch but with very sane defaults.
