USB Floppy Drive sometimes mounted as root

When I mount a floppy drive in nautilus it gets mounted owned by root so I cant write to it. If I unmount it and then mount it again its owned by me and everything is fine. What’s going on here and how can I fix it so that it mounts properly first time?

I cannot remember when I last saw that kind of storage media - oh wait - yesterday in ncis origins when they began typing in old case files.

udisks2 service is in charge on mounting removable devices.

When the service encounters an error in the file system - it may choose to mount anyway but in order to prevent further damage it is mounted as read-only.

I have several vintage computers from the 80’s and 90’s and floppy disks are often the only way to get started until I can get a better storage option. I’m currently working on an Amstrad PPC640 and trying to get a CF based hard drive working but I need to boot from a 3 1/2 floppy first.

i have a question: you’re talking about a real physical floppy-drive and not floppy-images ?

if so this link might be helpful. mounting a physical /dev/fdo using the floppy-module might need to adjust the owners-group similar to this

Just put an entry for it in /etc/fstab and be done with it. The tutorial below will explain how to do it. :backhand_index_pointing_down:
