You should disable chaotic, your totally unsupported third-party repo. Although it might not be the case here but it could have weird side-effects.

Pacman and pamac use different locations for local database storage. You could remove the /var/tmp/pamac folder and try again.

You have run pamac as root. Don’t do this.

Nothing wrong with adding the chaotic repo. Just make sure it’s the last one listed in you pacman.conf file.

Yes it definitely is. First of all, it’s unsupported. And even more importantly, when a user seeks help, he usually doesn’t even mention what third party repos he has installed. And so he is just wasting time of people that are trying to help and don’t even know what the actual problem is.

Again nothing wrong with adding 3rd party repos as long as you properly vet them.

You don’t understand what “un/supported” is refering to here. It means it’s not officially supported and since this is an official channel, you should either search for help elsewhere, eg. on chaotic forum (if they have it), or first remove it and then post your problem here - if you are still having it at all.

And even in your context, “It is better supported than the pure AUR” makes no sense.

You still aren’t getting it. This has nothing to do with having a courage to install something. It’s about people trying to help, not knowing the full story, so to speak.

You can have all the repos in this world added. And 30 custom themes, 5 DEs installed and mixed packages from all 3 branches for all I care. Just be competent enough to manage it all.

Perhaps you need an analogy.

You have an old car. And you crew and unscrew and tweak and what not your carburettor to the point nothing is working anymore.
Would you bring your car to a mechanic and tell him: “Well, it won’t start up. No idea what’s wrong.”?
My guess is probably not. Because you’ll get charged more for those extra hours he’ll need to spend guessing where the problem is.

So why would you do it here?
