Update ended in readonly filesystem

I checked my mirrors before upgrading, and then attempted pamac update. The update failed with these errors (I apologize for the screenshot, but the failed update has now prevented me from being able to open my web browsers)

Because it seems my system is now unstable, what should I do next?

Your problem seems to be different to the one above. It says read-only file system → your hard drive or SSD has errors that by coincidence popped up with you updating.
→ Your device locked up so you can fix it before it gets worse.

You need to fix these errors first before you can install the update. Do you have a USB stick to boot a livesystem at hand?

FYI - My storage device is a newish NVME drive. Gonna be tremendously bummed if it’s gone bad already.

I’m on a EFI system, and I use LUKS encryption. I’m backing up some file first in the event I have to rebuild everything.

Maybe your update has run partially. So the kernel and / or modules may be missing. You may not be able to boot without these.

You can also use maxi -eg

to collect information about the boot process. This works,

• when you are in your running system (with CTRL+ALT+F2).
• And also in a live environment

inxi will run but I’m posting from a different machine becuase I can no longer open a browser on my manjaro box.

Try transporting the result of inxi via USB.

sudo inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width > inxi.txt

Otherwise, you may end up with a thread with around 100 posts and have to answer many questions by hand. It is your decision.

The file system is read only, so that file will not be written. How do I get it to the USB in that case?

Can you mount a USB ? The filesystem of the USB will be writeable.

cd into your mounted USB. There execute inxi and write directly to a file on your USB

3. Your btrfs-filesystem is not full

Some conclusions:

1. I have no experience with encrypted systems. (so I’m out)
2. You should explain the type of RAID you are using to the person who will help you (just so nothing goes wrong)
3. If btrfs is readonly, there is an associated error message in the log files. That would certainly be helpful in finding the cause.
4. If only the EFI file system was readonly, this would be a minor problem.

• Because of the encryption, I wouldn’t reboot until you have fixed the error.
• And I wouldn’t try to fix the error if you don’t have a backup of your data.
