Valkey to replace Redis in the [extra] Repository
2025-04-17 - Andrew Crerar
Valkey, a high-performance key/value datastore, will be replacing redis in the [extra] repository. This change is due to Redis modifying its license from BSD-3-Clause to RSALv2 and SSPLv1 on March 20th, 2024 .
Arch Linux Package Maintainers intend to support the availability of the redis package for roughly 14 days from the day of this post, to enable a smooth transition to valkey. After the 14 day transition period has ended, the redis package will be moved to the AUR. Also, from this point forward, the redis package will not receive any additional updates and should be considered deprecated until it is removed.
Users are recommended to begin transitioning their use of Redis to Valkey as soon as possible to avoid possible complications after the 14 day transition window closes.
– Arch Linux - News: Valkey to replace Redis in the [extra] Repository
As of Linux 6.13.12, the 6.13 series is now EOL (End Of Life). Please install 6.14 stable and/or 6.12 LTS (Long Term Support).
Notable Package Changes
Known Issues
Chrome/Chromium-based browsers and GNOME 48 - Global Shortcuts
If you have extensions who use shortcuts installed on these browsers, you’ll face an issue of many dialogs opening when the browser starts, it’s quite annoying. The bug has been reported and fixed, but the commit is not yet on a stable release.
The workaround for now, is to disable the feature via --disable-features=GlobalShortcutsPortal

it’s ok on nvidia for maxwell for kernel 6.14 and 6.12 , ko for 6.6 ( i get only update 6.6 with header , no nvidia update ), so it does not work for kernel 6.6
Working on the missing modules now. I’ve just pushed linux66-nvidia
and linux66-nvidia-open
570.144-3.
And now we have a fourth release of kernel 6.14.4. Why do we need so many patch updates to every single kernel version lately? I have now wasted 600 MB of bandwidth downloading the same kernel version four times.

Cos I’m adding support for a new device we will soon support pre-installed and might be available even in Stores to buy …

6.14.4.
In the last 24 hours, the kernel upgrade failed three times.
I restored it three times, and it worked fine on the fourth try.
Even though it was the same version number, the contents were different.
I was struggling without noticing. lol)

Thank you.
It seems that there are no problems at the moment, so I can’t take away other people’s valuable time. I can revert to the buggy state, but I have work and can’t have enough time to communicate.
There are no major problems. Pipewire just dies sometimes. I’m fixing it with my usual routine.
Thank you again.

This isn’t the same complaint I had. My complaint is that they’ve released 6.14.4-1, 6.14.4-2, 6.14.4-3, and 6.14.4-4 in the span of a few days.

Is 6.14.4-4 supposed to be fixed? Cause it doesn’t boot for me with nvidia. Had errors for missing modules during installation too.

Do you have linux614-nvidia installed?
Nope, had nvidia-open installed. Replaced it, works, thanks.

@ben75
I misunderstood.
Thank you for pointing that out.

I had a bit of a hard time after number 17. It’s fine now.

Currently. I feel like the whole DE has become slower, but it’s not a problem.
I can get the job done. In other words, I don’t need help.

I knew I need this “because of some modules”

With ZFS. If it’s up to date, it’s very fast. I’m amazed. I just saw the announcement on github.
