Unable to wake from Suspend

Hello guys!
I am running Manjaro Linux on my HP Spectre x360. Since I installed it, I was never able to wake it from suspend. It kinda reacts on keyboard input and shows the screen for a little bit, but i am unable to type something to log in to the screen lock. I have tried to find some possible solutions in the Forum already like: laptop-cant-wake-from-suspend. Others i could not really follow or didn’t think where relevant.
Here is my output for:

This should be around a suspend, followed by a hard reset. (I hope this is okay to post…)

Is there a way to do a softer reset? And where would I best look for a log, where I can know more about that problem?

Thanks in advance.

Martin

My suspend also didn’t work properly. Let’s try and narrow the logs to be a bit more relevant. Please post the complete output of:

journalctl --unit=suspend.target --no-pager --priority=warning..err

Its just:

╰╴❯ journalctl --unit=suspend.target --no-pager --priority=warning..err
-- No entries --

I did a suspend cycle right before.

Thanks for the help!

OK, let’s leave out the priority part. Please provide the output for:

journalctl --unit=suspend.target --no-pager --boot=-1

This will limit it to be from the previous boot, so any other boots’ messages won’t show up.

There you go:

╰╴❯ journalctl --unit=suspend.target --no-pager --boot=-1
Jun 02 15:49:21 kronberger-manjaro systemd[1]: Reached target Suspend.
Jun 02 15:49:21 kronberger-manjaro systemd[1]: Stopped target Suspend.

And the output for:

systemctl suspend

Do you mean like this?

╰╴❯ journalctl -u systemd-suspend.service

Hmmm…

Please provide the output for:

journalctl --pager-end --no-pager --unit=systemd-suspend.service

Hmm i get no entries again…

Well, that just means it doesn’t have any log entries. Please provide the output for:

systemctl status systemd-suspend.service
╰╴❯ systemctl status systemd-suspend.service
○ systemd-suspend.service - System Suspend
     Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-suspend.service; static)
     Active: inactive (dead)
       Docs: man:systemd-suspend.service(8)

I’ve just run this command on my PC to test it, and it works, so please provide the output for:

journalctl --unit=systemd-suspend.service --priority=err..warning --boot=-1 --no-pager

No entries. Again.

OK, I’m stumped. All I can recommend is making absolutely sure the service is enabled:

systemctl enable systemd-suspend.service

And/or checking the Arch wiki on the subject:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_management/Suspend_and_hibernate#Troubleshooting

And waiting for someone more knowledgeable than i.

Okay, no problem. Thanks for the Support!

I’m not sure this is useful in your case;

sudo systemctl soft-reboot

however, there is also REISUB/REISUO:

It might be worth checking that the unit file actually exists:

ls /etc/systemd/system
ls /etc/systemd/user

…if those paths are correct…

That thread suggests that your laptop is affected by the incorrect VBT issue and the only solution is to patch the i915 driver as described there.

Thank you @Mirdarthos,
I followed the thread and found on my system the same responses to your questions (and the same issue) as @kronbergerindustrie.
May be your
systemctl enable systemd-suspend.service
is missing a --now, as described f.e. here (section “Update”)?

I tried following the patch. But i don’t have the file named ‘intel_bios.c’.
Did this change somehow? I am dual-booting. Maybe thats the problem.

But i think you are right. I have the same two entries for eDP as described:

You’re missing something because it should definitely be there in kernel 6.6
