Unable to load KWalletManager Window

The only error I can track down is the following, which is written to the CLI when attempting run kwalletmanager from the CLI

Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)

and it’s not so much an error as a warning. But the Kwallet Manager window greys out and display a not responding message in the Window decoration bar, and eventually the same message, above, is displayed in the Window.

If I log in as a different user Kwallet Manager loads correctly.

I’ve removed ~/.cache, and even renamed ~/.config/kwalletd and removed config files for kwalletmanager5 and kwalletmanger, but yet it does appear the problem is related to my personal account.

i dont know whether it has any relavance here, but since plasma 6.3.5 or 6.4.x, kwalletd5 is no more, only kwalletd6 exists. earlier both were there.

I am actually running kwalletd6

[tracy@daphne ~]$ ls /usr/share/dbus-1/services | grep kwallet
org.kde.kwalletd6.service
org.kde.kwalletmanager.service

and kwalletmanager5 is the only kwalletmanager avilable… apparently.

As I said, in my first post. It loads properly with a different user.

kwalletmanager is the qt6 version.

There is no kwalletmanager5 in the repos, nor in the AUR. There is however both a kwallet (qt6) and a kwallet5 — the latter still being a dependency of certain other things, like e.g. calligra-plan.

I’ve just done a full refresh of the repos and I’m still seeing kwalletmanager5

You’re right — I have it too — and it appears to be an inconsistency in the naming. :point_down:

So it’s the qt6-based version, but it’s still called kwalletmanager5. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

For that matter, on my system it starts normally, but even though it appears to open the default wallet — the icon in the system tray changes — when I start an application that accesses it — e.g. kmail — the wallet itself is actually still closed, and I have to manually open it via the wallet manager.

As it does on my computer when I log in as a different user.

There appear to be quite a few related files… :point_down:

These are the actual encrypted files and their support files.

.kwl holds the encrypted data, .salt is obvious, and the json file holds metadata. the *rc file are just config files and don’t hold anything that deleting them will cause problems.

I think my problem goes deeper, as attempting to do anything with kwallet via Kde System Setting Manager cause it to go unresponsive and eventually crash. It also takes a long time to load the kwallet management plugin.

Interesting…

Iturned off Use Wallet for the Secret Service Interface… I unchecked it.

I then shut the machine down, then restarted it. After logging in I was able to load kwalletmanager, and access both the wallets I have configured… but…

I received an error message from a two factor app I have. It informed me it could not access the secret service. so i enabled Secret Service. kwallet manager still works, but the two factor app still complains.

I think this app is the problem. I will reconfigure it with a new encrypted key, and see. It has been running for some time, but it’s suspicious that the moment it can’t access the wallet, the problem goes away.

could be this;

Most applications use org.freedesktop.secrets.service D-Bus service. KWallet does not provide a service file for it out of the box.

Yes, I suspect the 2FA app is the source of the Connecting to deprecated signal message.
