Tracking nvidia 570 drivers status

There have historically been a ton of problems with wayland on nvidia. Supposedly, according to what I’ve been reading, by 570 everything should pretty much all be wrapped up. I’ve heard this before, but there seems to be more anecdotal evidence this time. The upgrade to 570 is going to be a big deal for me since when it finally lands on stable I will sit and bang my head against the wall until everything is fully working on wayland, finally banishing X11 to oblivion.

As pretty much 100% of the computer problems I have are caused by nvidia, I appreciate the caution with moving 570 to stable, but I would like to have a better idea of when I can expect this.

I know it’s currently available on testing, but is there any timeline for when it moves up? Can we expect them on 25.0? Any other details the dev team could share would be great. Thanks!

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but I was more wondering about what were the prospects for these things to actually land on stable in the foreseeable future? I had seen where these things are in the repos currently, I’m just mostly clueless about how things typically move up from testing. I take it from the fact that nobody has commented on that that it’s mostly a “nobody really knows, we’ll see how it fares” situation?

Switching Branches - Manjaro Wiki
Manjaro actually uses three distinct branches:

  • Stable branch: The packages that come to stable have gone through roughly a couple of weeks testing by the users of the Unstable/Testing repos, before they get the packages. These packages are usually free of any problems.
  • Testing branch: This is the second line of defense. Being a larger number of users than those using Unstable, they refine the work done prior to them by providing feedback on the packages they recieve on updates.
  • Unstable branch: Unstable is synced several times a day with Arch package releases. Only a subset of Arch packages are modified to suit Manjaro. Those that use Unstable need to have the skills to get themselves out of trouble when they move their system to this branch. They are the Manjaro users who are most likely to need to use such skills. Due to the feedback from the users of the Unstable repo, many issues are caught and fixed at this level. Although the very latest software will be located here, using the unstable branch is usually safe but - in rare cases - may cause issues with your system!

I’m on Stable, but I’m curious as to whether anyone running Unstable here is running the new nvidia 570 drivers with Wayland - I see 570 is considered the new production branch drivers, and I’m wondering how long it will take those to make it into Stable, since we have been limping along with 550 (from before the addition of explicit sync, making many games unplayable) for basically a year now.

I’ve tried the 570 driver on my HP which has an MSI GeForce GT 1030 in it. I had to revert back to the 550 driver. KDE Plasma was glitching out. When going iinto overview mode the windows would flash on and off the screen, and dissapear when mousing over them. Also the KDE panel would not render properly and fully maximized windows would not extend to the margins of the screen. Just totally borked. I am connected via HDMI, and i have read that the 570 driver breaks VRR on HDMI, but i’m pretty sure this isn’t a VRR issue. I really hope Manjaro keeps the 550 driver in the repos because the 570 driver isn’t going to work for me. At least not in it’s current state.

Sorry to hear that. How are you trying out 570 on that machine? Running the unstable branch? AUR? Different distro?

Update 2025-03-20: FYI for those watching this thread, the 570 drivers went into Testing branch earlier today:

I ran into a little bump, but got it working without too much pain. System seems to be running well now.

Any idea when Nvidia drivers > than 550 will be included in Stable update?

It seems that 570 are in unstable: Branch compare for Manjaro

On a note: Manjaro is - with certain packages - more bleeding edge than upstream Arch
