TP-Link T3U Plus USB WiFi failing frequently

I recently moved from Windows to Manajaro on a desktop system. I’m having problems with WiFi connectivity. It’s effectively unstable. Runs for a while and then stalls… occasionally silently and then at some point states limited connectivty. Eventually it fails altogether and there is no WiFi connection.
A reboot will “fix it” but that may be for a couple of days or only a few minutes. Turning the wifi off and then on again has also been effective at “bringing it back” although this has now failed entirely twice today which seems new. Again when it comes back from this it may be minutes or hours before it fails again.

I’m getting the following noise in dmesg around when the wifi fails

rtw_8822bu 1-11:1.0: write register 0xc4 failed with -71
rtw_8822bu 1-11:1.0: rtw_usb_reg_sec: reg 0x4e0, usb write 1 fail, status: -71

Mod edit:- Tidied formatting in accordance with forum guidelines. No charge. Please edit the topic title to better describe your issue. The pre-formatted text guidelines refer to all code or command output, and not just that of inxi output.

Mod note:- Thank you for the edits and conforming to guidelines. Note that when using inxi, privilege elevation with sudo is not generally required. Cheers.

Your post has been moved to a dedicated topic.

Avoid adding your own issue to another member’s Support topic, especially one that has been abandoned for a long period. :eyes:

Please edit the first post in this thread.

Specifically state the nature of your problem, and give as much detail as possible to help others help you.

Take a look at the inxi output you provided. :eyes:
That doesn’t look right, does it?

Please provide your system information as described (below).

Also included are links designed to help you use the forum. Particularly useful will be the link concerning posting code and command output as pre-formatted text.

I’m sure someone will help as soon as they are able.

Regards.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit.

Note: By virtue of using the Manjaro forum you acknowledge and agree to follow Rules and Guidelines outlined; so, you really should read them:

It is important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem. Please also be prepared to provide output from commands if/when asked.

Simply waiting for others to ask you questions is counter-productive – typically, nobody has a :crystal_ball: at their disposal – and your clear, concise and accurate input is often relied upon in order to help you.

Please help others to make informed suggestions based on information you provide.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

Suggested inxi command (use either):

inxi -zv8 (short-form)
inxi --filter --verbosity=8 (long-form)
inxi man pages (manual)
If running `inxi` within a `chroot` environment
  • Add --color=0 to the long-form command, or…
  • Change the short-form command to inxi -zv8c0

The following kernels are installed in your system:
   * linux618

Note the line Currently running: 6.18.0-1-MANJARO (linux618)

You can try this:

Thank you for the pointers. I do apologize for the state of the original post… I’m relatively new here and appreciate your patience.
Installing the RinCat driver appears to have done the trick. I’ve written up how I got it sorted out (as I didn’t find just one simple instruction set with clear guidance that didn’t need modification for me)

thank you all again.
