I really don’t understand what’s going on. Have you tried downgrading your package?

no sir

all i can tell you is that this issue is not new - this seems to be a reoccurring problem that happens every once in a while and it’s the titlebar color thing that is reported - this happened to me maybe several months ago or more, and i’ve seen several other reports

if you want me to troubleshoot further, i’m willing, otherwise it’s not a problem that i can’t live with

at some point i like to nuke most of the dot files in /home and reinstall the OS because i’ve noticed that these kind of little issues tend to build up over time

To add to this, I seem to be having problems with manjaro-kde-settings that I posted about in another thread:

https://forum.manjaro.org/t/multi-monitor-setup-in-plasma-broke-after-stable-update-2021-07-28/76342/10?u=kevlyn

When updating manjaro-kde-settings my multi-monitor setup goes crazy and is unusable. I tried re-applying themes, etc. and the problem remains. The only fix I’ve had is reverting back to a previous version of manjaro-kde-settings.

(Posting here because that other thread doesn’t seem to be noticed and was tagged as a different issue)

perhaps not related, but i’m also on AMD…

Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.84.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.13.8-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 8 × AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with Radeon Vega Graphics
Memory: 15.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon™ Vega 11 Graphics

not sure if this helps or hinders, but i noticed by accident that changing the color of the titlebar does affect Pamac - which i think is GTK?

Breeze GTK follows KDE theme now what makes it even more strange. So only Qt-based apps are affected? Have you tried other KWin themes (which support colors like Oxygen)? Maybe it’s something with Breeze decorations?

yes, i think that’s correct - Pamac titlebar color can be changed but most apps (Dolphin, System Settings, Thunderbird, Firefox, Kate, etc.) the color cannot be changed

Have you tried other KWin themes (which support colors like Oxygen)?

if you mean from the ‘plasma style’ settings, yes, i tried the Breath variant that supports colors and Oxygen, though it doesn’t say it supports colors

perhaps i should mention again that, like others have said, if i change the widget theme from Breeze to Plastic, then titlebar colors can be changed (but other small issues arise)

i just tried a bootable Artix Linux ISO - KDE/Plasma - same thing - couldn’t change titlebar color - the only setting i changed prior to color was i selected ‘dark theme’ when the settings manager first appeared

This issue arose for me upon updating all my packages today.

A week or so ago i updated all packages. i reboot every day. A couple days ago i changed color scheme (to the one with green active titlebar). Today i updated all packages again. During package updates my active green titlebar changed to grey. Then for the first time i edited, saved, and applyed a new color scheme, but the active titlebar color just wouldn’t change. Google led me here, and it’s strange this thread is from back in august! i just deleted(moved) /etc/xdg/kdeglobals. No immediate effect, will see after reboot…

It’s not the same issue. Can you please provide your ~/.config/kdeglobals?

i don’t see an ‘attach’ button, is there one? here ya go:

So if you apply your own color scheme it isn’t get applied? Or only header stays the same? Can you please try with other schemes also?

interesting, now if i edit a different color scheme, save, and apply, it works. But i still have two broken color schemes from a half hour ago, where the titlebar color is flatly ignored. Offhand i’d bet it might be because systemsettings5 had been running from before the update, and the update gave me a new version of systemsettings5 which works better now. Anyway thanks!

inability to change title bar colors has been a long-standing issue dating back possibly more than a year, at least when first selecting a dark theme (breeze), and the issue is present on a fresh install without restoring any kde-plasma stuff in /home

from reading other comments regarding this issue over the years, it seems that in some cases, after dumping various kdeglobals, etc., files in /home ~/.config /etc, one might be able to change the titlebar color once, but not a second time - this just happened to me now

what i just now figured out is that, if the titlebar color doesn’t change in systems settings → appearance → colors when saving the change and closing the color editor and applying the change, if i save the change in the color editor without closing the window, then click another menu item in the appearance window, the change will then be saved - all that is needed then is to switch to another theme in the colors window, then back again

It’s caused by Header colors defined in the theme: 433059 – "Active/Inactive Titlebar" colors are visible and editable but confusingly unused when Header colors are present
