System freezing - intermittent

This thing has always run hot. I can’t say whether it is running hotter now or not.

Should I give that addl parameter a try? If so, add it or in place of

well if it works now with radeon.dpm=0 and the pc was running always hot, i dont see a reason for radeon.bapm=0
but if you want to try it out if the temps are lower with the bapm parameter you can, so in that case you replace the dpm one with the bapm one, save grub, update grub, reboot and test

Changed grub with this setting: `radeon.bapm=0’

Fyi… Froze within minutes

so its the radeon.dpm=0 for you …
and check again logs, it you still have them:
journalctl -b0 -p4 --no-pager

No logs from the bapm freeze, I’d be very happy to change parameters to get a freeze and subsequent logs if you’d find them beneficial

no, i worded it wrong. I meant to check logs again with the radeon.dpm=0 parameter, to see if you still have some radeon errors…
also porvide additional dmesg logs:
sudo dmesg -l err,warn,emerg,alert,crit

Logs (but not sure if still useful as I was powered off over the weekend):

                                                                                                                                                                                             ✔

ok no radeon errors, but there is some kernel issue, its only one… so next time you will be using the pc post again logs, to see if the kernel logs are still there

Its been a bit - things appear to be running well (no freezes!)

Here are two log dumps I generated (wasn’t sure which you wanted):

sudo dmesg -l err,warn,emerg,alert,crit  ✔

you have these…
install the 6.0.2 kernel from system settings, reboot and boot with it and see if you have any freezes … and again provide logs …
also when in 6.0 kernel provide output from:
inxi -G
if you for whatever reason cant boot with the 6 kernel, just switch back to the 5.15 in grub menu… i want to check if you can use the amdgpu driver instead of the radeon one…

Booted fine - here are the logs:

ournalctl --boot=-1 --priority=4 --no-pager  ✔

ok so no kernel logs in the 6.0…
but the amdgpu as a alternate is not detected in the 6.0 kernel:

like it was detected when you were running the 5.18 kernel:

so lets keep using radeon and see if you have any issues with the 6.0 kernel

Hi - things are running well.

My question is - I am running kernel: 6.0.19-4 MANJARO (64-bit). Do I need to stay on that kernel - or should I at some point - upgrade to a newer kernel? Or perhaps the better question is - do I need to stay on this kernel so I don’t start seeing those intermittent freezes again?

Linux 6.0 is EOL already. Upgrade as soon as possible. 6.1 is new LTS version.

TCO - Thanks!
